What actions can be taken to recoop money, or get your purchase?
I thought all transactions were down throught PayPal.

Welcome to AZB

There are quite a few thing you can do to ensure a good transaction:
1 Use a little common sense
2 Use a credit card to back your paypal payment, if something goes wrong, you have the option to dispute the payment through your credit card company to get your money back. This leaves paypal to work out the money situation with the other party while you get your money back.
3. use an escrow service, you can read about this service an how it works by going to page 1 of the wanted/for sale page and reading about it in the stickys (posts in the gray area at top of page) along with the forum rules and other helpful informaion.
4. Only deal with folks that have a good track record and have established themselves over time. Read about ITrader in the sticky section as well.

I hope this information is helpful!

Paypal does have buyer protection. You can submit a claim through them. Just remember, it is a good idea to send the money under a "purchase of goods" and not as a "gift".. It may save you a little money, but in the long run protects you as a buyer if the seller decides to flake out. Another good option is to fund your Paypal acct. with your credit card and dispute it directly with your CC company. Not all transactions are done through Paypal here. Some prefer a Postal Money Order or certified check, but document what you send and require a signature.. Less likely you will get screwed with a Postal MO due to it being a federal offense, as opposed to a Paypal dispute. But sadly, all this still does not guarantee a smooth purchase or sale. Most have had nothing but great transactions here, but there's always a few idiots as per usual.
