It's official - Smarter people crumble easier under pressure

Maybe But.......

My wife says I'm a "FART SMELLER". And she isn't too fond of my Petard either.

Now I don't know if this is a juxtaposition or her honest opinion.

WHAT SAY YOU?

I've often thought that my dim-witted counterparts had it easy in some way or another. Now I know! :D

Ahh, I kill me.

And to add to my post -- I guess I won't feel so bad the next time I lose to an idiot!

Ba-da-da-chaaaa :D

Oh no, I'm not going into the whole petard etymology thing again, been there and done that on RSB. I'll just say this on the subject; Whatever your wife tells you is right, always ;-)

BTW You asked me once why I quote Shakespeare instead of Cornbread Red. That's because I've never read any of Mr. Burge's poetry.

However getting back OT I liked this article, because now if I loose I can claim it was not because my opponent was too good but because he was too stupid to know how to miss.

A scientific study shows that smart peoples' mental ability gets easily reduced by pressure, but dumber people keep on going at the same level no matter what:

Ties in nicely with the "don't think just shoot" theory for handling the mental aspects of Pool.

Nice article, AuntyDan....thanks.

The irony seems to be that "smart" (how do "they" measure smartness, anyway?) people conducted this study and now know (or at least have an indication toward) what must be (un)done to be more successful at pressure tasks.

Therefore, with this new info., smart people will increasingly discover ways to beat this, and in the long run, become better at handling stress than their "dumber" counterparts.

This may also explain the use of pot and beer before playing, both which are a detriment to short-term memory.

The majority of successful business people that control over 80% of the wealth in this country, graduated from college with no higher than a C average.

Yeah but how much did their daddies control?

What about people that only look dumb. You know, 'people that are smarter than they look', or look smarter than they are. Maybe the real problem is, are they smart enough to know that they look dumb. How can you be smart and look dumb. Sounds like an art to me. Hmmm, what can I do to make myself look dumber than I am. Well that would depend on how dumb you are in the first place. But if your that dumb, your probably not going to be able to figure out how to make yourself look dumber.

Yup, I think being a little smarter than the average Joe is an ASSET. You get to use the last three letters first and the first three letter last at work. They SET on there ASS which puts extra pressure on there brain, there brain starts to hurt and that is why they look so dam dumb.

;)

I think there is some truth to this, maybe not about the pressure aspect..But the less you think and just shoot the more likely to play better...Over thought complicates things...I read an article once that stated DeadHeads/ Burners were the easiest group to teach golf...They don't complicate lessons with analyitical thought about the swing and such..they just do it..
