hello i just purchased the "ultimate Tip too" and it has instructions on how to use it but when it gets to the part about sizing the tip NICKEL OR DIME i was wondering what would be the diffrence what are the advantages on the sizes
ex. i have heard that dime size is good for drawing the cuball but i dont know any thing else. also when i actually shape it theres alot of shavings that are still attached to the tip and i dont know if im doin it wrong or what is goin on. if that is how it is suppose to look then how do i get all the excess shavings off the tip

thank you for taking your time to read this post.

The tip will look a bit rough after shaping it - that's normal. Play with it a while and you'll see that the tip "packs down" over time. But a bit of roughness is good, it helps the tip grip the cue. That's why there are other tools out there, "tip picks" that you can use to re-roughen your tip without grinding it down as you would if you used a shaper.

A teammate of mine routinely uses a shaper to roughen his tip up, and lately I've been giving him grief about getting his shaft retipped - it's down to a nearly-flat nub. And his game has gone downhill in recent months, and I'm attributing that to the lack of tip - he just doesn't have the control he used to have.

It is a bad tip if you cant get it 'clean' relatiively easy. I had one like that-defective-just kept shredding and looking funky no matter what. Mike Webb told me it was just a bad tip.

ok it does actually start to pack down after i played a couple games with it thanks for your alls replys now all i need to know is what is the best shape nickel or dime :) .

Youll have many opinions of tip diameter. Personally i shape to a dime and then have the tip naturally work down to whatever shape it goes to. Itll then stay that shape cause its shaped like that based on how i hit the cue ball.

As for the clumps on the tip after shaping, thats elk master for ya. When i used elk masters i had a lot of tips that just sanded into clumps and i would have to play for a while to smooth out the tip surface.
