Ivory Ferrule Maintenance

I picked up a cue with ivory ferrules and just wondering if there are any tips for maintenance...I know about temperature sensitivity but have heard about rubbing oil on them once in a while to keep them from getting too brittle. What do you guys do to make them last? Thanks

I just wipe mine clean once and a while with a damp paper towel followed by a dry cloth towel when I'm cleaning my shaft after a few hours of play. When I lived in Michigan I'd always give my cue a few minutes to adjust from the temperature extreme when coming into the poolroom from the cold. I've never had any problems whatsoever with ivory ferrules or joints and I must have had at least 12 cues with both. I urge you to find a cuemaker or repair guy, known to be competent, to do your tips. Ivory ferrules are easily ruined by an incompetent installer with poor equipment.

I just put an ivory ferrule on my personal player and I believe mineral oil is what's recommended...
