Ivory Ferrule Questions

Hey guys!

What is the best way to put a tip on when you have an ivory ferrule? With a pad or without? What are the pads made out of? Also, what are the benefits of an ivory ferrule as opposed to the drawbacks? Are they hard to maintain as far as cleaning or what not? Sorry for all the questions, but I am curious and was thinking about having an ivory ferrule put on my cue. Thanks in advance for the answers!

I do not use pads when installing ivory ferrules. The pad "muffles" the feel or hit. Pads are not nessesary, if you don't let the tip get to low. Pads are made of a real hard fiber, either red or black.

Ivory Ferrules

Thanks guys for the answers. I know a guy who is a friend of mine who shoots with a classic original Szamboti that has ivory ferrules, and has red pads. He says that his shafts have always had those and he wouldn't use a tip without them because it could hurt the ivory ferrules. ANyideas?

Ivory Ferrule

Also, I forgot to ask. About how much is decent to pay a professional to install an ivory ferrule and tip on a cue? I've heard some prices, but they seem inflated to me. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I charge $75.00 for the ivory, and add what ever the tip sells for.

pads

On Hercek's web site, he says he always uses a pad. It must be important.

Hey, trufil, I don't use them, and that is IMPORTANT. We all do differant things, and believe in differant things. You don't need them, but if you want them, knock your lights out, my friend.

THESE GUYS AND GALS, THINK AS I, DO, Buddy Hall, Grady Mathews, Jimmy Mataya, Wade Crane, Danny DiLiberto, Buddy Dennis, Belinda Compos, Mary kenninston, C.J.Whiley and many more don't think they are important, as I don't. Pads muffle the hit and or feel. DUH! If you break with an ivory ferrule, it's gonna crack, playing as long as the tip is not down to low, crank it up.............Some like them, most do not..as pointed out above, by top players.

Hey Hick. PM me your address.
I have your ferrule rods. They're better than anything you've tried.
These will make use of threading talent. :p

But, I'm actually a redneck. I mowed our lawn yesterday and I found my dad's old Pinto. Our tv sits on top of our old console tv. Our tv antenna doubles as our clothes dryer.
Thanks, I'm mailing a check for $3500 so you can get that taper machine.

Dude, don't even mention that crap.
I have yards and yards of free space in the back.
Fukkin ey, I could build a nice shop out there except home freakin association does not allow roofed buildings in the back.
