Ivory Ferrule

What, if any, advantage is there to playing with an ivory ferrule? I've seen these and the ivory joint mentioned but have not found anything that discusses the pros and cons.

The only advatage I can find to and Ivory ferrule is that they stay cleaner and are super easy to clean if they get dirty.

Nothing I hate more than a dirty ferrule.

The pros are it looks beautiful and has a nice feel when you hit the ball. It is a precious and expensive material. Ivory has soul, or an intangible factor that you just know is special. The cons are that it may crack although I've not had this happen, and the belief that it is a motivation for poaching. Many man made products hit as well and are more durable if not as special. I try to appreciate ivory as something to be treasured, but I enjoy playing with cues with various plastics just as much.
