Ivory joint

I have some ivory joints and am going to make my first ivory jointed cue. My question to you guys is how do I install the ivory. Is the joint cap usually bored all the way through and then glued on a tenon or do you leave the ivory capped on the end? I think I have seen them both ways but was wondering what you guys prefer. Is the hit any different with a capped joint? If I bored all the way through would I have to worry about cracking?

Any input would help.

Thanks

Solid capped is most popular. But I have started boring half way with 5/8" hole them boring the rest of the way through with .400" hole. This gives me the ability to tap through wood the whole way for the joint screw. And if the joint ever cracks the replacement job is much easier. So far zero problems with this method.
