My father engraves guns and also does Ivory Scrimshaw. We were talking the other night and we were wondering if there would be a market for Scrimshaw on ivory inlayed cues? He did a couple peices for Huebler. He now is head design for Black Hills Gold and does gun engraving and scrimshaw on the side. It would all be hand done and no CNC. He really is amazing. I will try to walk him through working the digital camera for some pictures of his work. Let me know what you guys think.

Sorry, I should have done a search! I see all the Scrimshaw work. If anyone is interested though Im sure he would do the first few for next to nothing. Maybe a cue in trade. He has done that with guns before.

I would suggest you put an example of his work in a picture for all of us CueMakers to see:) Thanks...

Pictures up

Here a 4 Pictures of some of his work. Some engraving and some Scrimshaw. I need to walk him through how to get close up clear pictures but this shows some pretty good quality. We will work on some better pictures! Keep in mind this is all free hand also. I wonder if there would be a market for engraved cues? He would do work for trades also. I know he is looking for a 9' Table also! :)

That is actually steel and he said it was a B!#*$. The problem with engraving on a lot of these guns is, the metal is cured and it is as hard as rock so he kind of regretted getting into gun engraving.

Will try and also get better pics up tonight. PM with ideas for him!

There are a few cue makers who use scrimshaw or carving in their cues. It's my understanding that Bill Schick was a former Master Engraver before becoming a cue maker and he often has scrimshaw in his cues. Paul Mottey also uses scrimshaw and I have seen where Reyes has carved ivory in some of his cues.

I've always liked scrimshaw and have thought about doing some on my cues for some time now.

I think the story goes Bill asked a master engraver to do a little work on some of his cues, a logo or initials. His friend said no, but he agreed to teach Bill how to do it. I believe Bill developed the skills he has over time through working on his cues.

I believe my father could add some very beautiful scrimshaw work to a custom ivory cue.
