Ivory tipped pins

Was Bill Schick the first cm to put ivory tips on his pins? Why don't more cms do this from a machining standpoint it isn't difficult. Could you also use other materials to dress up a pin? I was thinking along the lines of corian or similar materials.

Thanks
Andy

I think Bill probably was the first. Around the same time, Libra was also putting a small ivory dot inlay right on the tip of their 3/8-10 pins. Would guess that was around 1988-1990. Gilbert does an ivory tip (ala Schick) per special request, but it's a $100 upcharge. Think more people don't do this because it's generally just a pain in the a$$ and most customers won't pay extra for it. Don't see why other materials like Corian or reconstituted stone like malachite, turquoise, or red coral couldn't be used, as well.

I've seen pictures of a few cues online with an ivory-tipped pin and wondered how it's done. Is it threaded into the hole in the pin or glued in some way?

> I've always been told that the ivory tip had a small eyeglass-type screw set into the bottom, that is threaded into the pin. I don't think the ivory would glue to stainless or aluminum very well. Tommy D.

well Kevin isn't that what everything else on a cue does? It's just an "extra touch".;)
