J/B Question's

This is my first post on AZ Billiards so i apologize if i am out of line as far as forum rules or there has already been a post of a similar topic

I have been playing pool for about a year or so and am now looking into buying a J/B cue to break with instead of a house cue (and figure having a jump cue would be nice sometimes as well)

I want something relatively inexpensive but not horrible quality Price range is about 90 Tops. I am more looking for advice rather than actual sellers as to which brands i should be looking at

There is a shop locally that has J&J's for around 60 i am curious to get yall's opinion on J&J's. It seems everyone that says they are good cues are pretty much vendors

Thank you

for the money you cant beat a J&J i had one for years before i started making cues.

pull the trigger you will be glad you did

I have a J&J JB, and my personal experiences are mixed.

1) I have the Kaiser model (KJB2 I think) with the wood pin. I've never owned any other break cue so I can't comment on the hit. However, the wood pin does add at least 1-3 inches to the shaft compared to a normal 29-31 inch shaft (with the joint protector, the shaft is 32 inches). Your case may not be able to accommodate this. Brian at J&J was very helpful in pointing this out and helping me choose a case however.

2) My KJB2 shaft also had a strange conical taper that's much fatter than a typical pro-taper. It does take a bit to get used to. Don't know if this applies to all J&J JBs.

3) The JB does serve it's purpose beautifully, especially if you're like me who's never owned a break cue with phenolic tips before this one. Can't comment on the jump cue since I pretty much never get a chance to use it in APA.

4) Personally I just can't bring myself to spend more than this for a cue that I use only several times a race/match. So yeah, it's awesome value.

Ah ha! This is certainly one that I feel I can chime in on. First off, I have broke with house cues, aluminum cues, two Action breakers, the McD Sledgehammer, the Stinger, a Pechauer, Predator, a Schon with a break shaft, and a few others that are escaping me right now. Suffice it to say, I have owned and used a lot of different cues to break, but my favorite happens to be a j/b, and it happens to be a J&J. Easily the hrs bang for the buck, and I think it's a much better breaker than other high dollar ones. I'm also an APA guy but when practicing and playing in tourneys my J&J gets broken down often and balls take flight. It was VERY easy to learn with, and is also a better jumper than some dedicated jump cues that I have played with. It's a good enough product that the guys on my team with a 350 sledgehammer leave it in the case and break with mine. Pull the trigger, you'll be glad that you did.
Oh, I have the plain all wood, just FYI. :-)
