A while back, I asked for advice on purchasing a custom cue. Quite a few posters were kind enough to respond. I got advice on several cue makers but I liked what people said about Dave Jacobi the best so I chose him. I said that I'd let you all know how things came out and that's exactly what I'm doing right now.
I asked them to make me a performance cue that was 60" long, 18 1/2 ounces in weight, leather wrap, two shafts (13 cm and 12cm) and short ferrules. I told them I wasn't concerned with the way it looks and didn't want any inlays. Well I got the cue about 12 weeks after I ordered it. It's a blond bird's eye maple with a black leather wrap. It hits great, although it took me a while to get used to it (I was playing with a Pechaur with a Predator shaft). I'm getting more and more used to it. It hits great! The workmanship is pretty phenominal! You just about can't find the seam on the wrap. The joint is really clean, i.e., you can't feel any ridge at all around the joint, it's really smooth. It is a plain looking cue but at the same time, people take a second look because even though it is plain, the outstanding workmanship is clearly evident.
Thank you to all of you who gave me suggestions, and especially to those of you who suggested Dave. And, of course, a big thank you to Jacobi Cues!!
