Jacoby, Schon, or other (Custom) Cue?

There are two nice Runde era Schons on ebay now take a look. If they don't ship out of the US there is an escrow guy on azb that I think could help. I forget his name.

I've shot with a J. Pechauer in the past and I can't say that I liked it a lot. It didn't seem to provide a lot of feedback, the hit was a bit too soft for me and the weight balance was to the rear.

I'm not doubting you but are you positive this was a Pechauer you shot with?
The reason I ask is because usually Pechauer's are perceived in the complete opposite way from what you described.
Meaning they are noted for being forward balanced and most people think they have a stiff hit.
As to the lack of feedback, I don't know. I can't complain about mine.
It has about the same amount of feedback as my Schon cue. I also don't find the Pechauser all that different for balance. I would say maybe about 1/4 inch more forward. But I like forward balanced cues.
For my shooting style I find it lays firmly in the bridge but gives a lighter/gentler feel at the butt end.

Like I said, they feel pretty much the same to me. Some swear by the Runde era. I think a lot of the mystique with these cues is that they are no longer being produced.

Could not agree with you more.
I have an old Schon and have often shot with a new one. I honestly would have no problems shooting with a brand new Schon and never shoot with the old one again. Really don't notice any difference at all. But that's just me.

I also think there is a mystique with these old Schon cues just because they're not made any more.
I find the old one I have to be no big deal, other than the fact that I'm the original owner and it has a sentimental value but that's it vs. a new one.

Want a soft hitting Schon? Get a cheap one (like the STL1) and put a Kamui Soft Black on it.
I recently did that to mine and it works just fine.
About to do the same with my Richard Black which is my main shooter.

I'm sure it was a Pechauer but I have no idea what modifications (if any) the guy had on the Cue, as I have no idea what kind of tip he was using or anything else.

The hit was a bit too soft for me and the weight and weight balance didn't feel quite good.

So, found a Schon STL-14 from in here, which is on the way to me. Got it for $450 (+$50 shipping) so I don't think I'll loose much money should I decide to sell it to someone else in case I don't like the hit of the Cue or anything.

Will post my impressions as soon as I get the Cue and play with it a few times.

I decided to go with a Schon, as I tested a Jacoby (19.2oz, 5/16 - 14, Birdseye Maple, Ebony with 4 high ebony points and 4 low ebony points, Jacoby and Schon shaft, Moori medium tip) the other day and I can't say I'm impressed of how the Cue felt... Weight balance was near the back of the Cue and everything felt just too soft and "elastic" to me.

I also found a Richard Black at a veeeeeery interesting price! So I don't know, maybe I'll give that one a chance as well :D

Glad you found your cue. That's why you always test hit first The soft hit is from the tip. Check your Schon's tip, you may want to change to hard tips. Most cues come with medium tips. Was the Jacoby new, if the butt was heavy it sounds like the weight bolt was changed.

The guy told me he hadn't modified the Cue in any way. The tip was a Moori Medium so I can't say it was towards the Soft side (if I'm not mistaken, Medium Moori's are actually towards the Hard side).

What is your opinion on Richard Black Cues? Have you tested one? How do they hit?

I've found one at a very attractive price and it also looks like a Bushka. Beautiful Cue!!!

Moori? They use Tiger Everest tips on their cues. Could of been custom made that way, or replaced, or older model. I have not shot with a RB cue but I've read good things about hem.
Where did you see the RB?

The guy is using Moori Tips for as long as I know him,so he certainly changed it as soon as he got the Cue.

The RB is on eBay. There's also a nice Black Boar... I don't know what to do... The STL-14 I bought used was just delivered to me today and it also looks sweet! Haven't played with it. I just took it to the shop to change the Tip to a Fuji Medium. I'm off to the pool hall today afternoon to test it and see how it plays :D

Unfortunately, both the RB and BB listings were "ended" (not sure why).

Anyways, I played with my STL 14 a bit last night. The "hit" was not as firm or as solid as I expected it to be, but maybe it was because of the tip I changed (I put a Fuji Medium Layered made by Longoni, which is supposed to be harder than those that were made by Moori according to the guy that installed it) and/or because the shaft that came with the cue was used a lot (it felt very thin in my hand and it didn't look to be 13mm; maybe 12.5mm or a bit less?).

After I put a brand new shaft on that I got from eBay the other day (which still has the original tip from Schon), everything became more firm and solid.

In any case, I liked the hit and response of the Cue, even with the used shaft :D

I'll have to get used to the Cue though as it is very, very, very, veeeeeery light comparing to what I'm used to (it weighs 18oz and it has a weight bolt in it and I'm playing with a 19.5oz Cue from which I've removed the weight bolt to make the Cue more forward-balanced).

The balance on the Schon STL 14 is near perfect with the new Schon shaft (quite forward balanced) whereas with the used Shaft, the Cue is just a bit forward balanced.

Overall, I like the Cue a lot and I think that I'll be very happy with it, as soon as I get used to it and experiment a bit using different Tip on the Shaft (the Fuji Regular Layered Medium Tip seems to be quite good actually but I'd like to test some more before I make up my mind).
