Hi -

I saw this on Ebay and You Tube.

I think I understand the principle, but I am wondering why one could not just as well use a beer bottle or other smooth object instead of the metal tool.

I would appreciate comments from anyone who has used this method and/or tool to straighten a shaft.

This note also posted in the Cue Maker section. Thank you.

You can use you palm and do the same thing. Rub it until you get a little heat.

I havent tried one but I do straighten shafts for the locals.

I am very much against rubbing metal against one of my wooden shafts.
the pressure of the metal against the wood has to have some effect on the wood .

Allot of shafts have a little roll or warp in them when i put them in the lathe , after spinnig a shaft and cleaning and waxing the shaft seems to get straighter , just by the friction causing a little heat.

almost all the shafts return to the warped. or roll they had they had in them before I worked on then.

Straightening the shaft is the easy part ,keeping it straight is the hard part.

If the grain is not straight in the wood the chance of a shaft warping is high.

.
Like said above I havent used one of these tools.
