Jacoby V5

I never played with the V4 but I’m waiting on Jacoby to post a video or something before I get the V5. I’m assuming they will soon.
 
I too am very interested. I currently play with a Jacoby and a pair of V4s, will likely grab a V5 to try out as soon as they’re available in 30” length.
 
There was a short clip on it in the Super billiards expo post I think, or maybe I saw it somewhere else. Some reviewer was going around and stopped at the Jacoby booth to look at his award winning cue then asked about the new shaft. Brandon took him over to a table and let him shoot some balls with it. He shot about 20 shots and I don't remember him missing. Brandon also showed where the difference was by flexing the shaft sideways back and forth. It seemed to bend fairly easily in the middle. So it looks as though they designed it to flex away from the ball more easily when using english. At least I think I saw it that way.

It sounds like Brandon Jacoby made the shaft more flex which is the complete opposite of what other manufacturers are doing making their carbon shafts more stiff. Very interesting!
 
Yeah, it's interesting. No mention of deflection either.

I'm very curious what this will play like and would really like to compare to my V4s. I would love slightly lower deflection with the same feel but not sure if that is what they're going for here or why they changed how the shaft flexes.
 
Ome of the reasons that I like the SMO shaft is that it’s more flexible than most.

We keep circling this over and over when it comes to low deflection shafts, YES, low front end mass is what allows for low deflection but the shaft needs to deflect instead of the CB.
 
I haven't hit a ball with it, but when I stopped at Jacoby about a month ago the guy was talking about how they are changing the direction of the fibers or weave or whatever at various points in the shaft to control the flex point and stiffness. It made sense in theory.

Granted that deflection is over-rated but, still, why no mention of any testing Jacoby did for deflection? Given arguments on AZ on the role of flex in deflection, you'd think there would be discussion on whether the increased flex added to V5 was done to to reduce deflection.

Its just a short video and not a Jacoby video but it appears V5 differs from V4 regarding i) more flex; ii) more player input on the feel of the V5 and another proposed shaft than had been done with V4; and iii) player input on the best tip for V5.

A YouTube commenter figured players didn't like the feel of the V4 and Brandon Jacoby tried to get a feel more like that of V3. The video agrees with some of that in that Jacoby made sure players liked the feel of V5. Maybe the increased flex was added for that.

Jacoby's website has short video of how V4 differs from V3. Maybe another will be posted on V5 versus V4 differences.
