What could one do to make a Valley 3 1/2 x 7 play good?Like what cloth to use, rails, balls.

Repalce the cushions and put Simonis 860 on it.Balls want make the table play any better but a good set of balls want hurt.

I can't remember are the rails u23 or k66 profile. If they are u23 I'd just order new rails if the k66 there's a number of differnt good cushions you could use.The simonis will speed the table up alot.

I'm not a great player but a couple of them have commented that Simonis is too fast for a bar box. I'm not qualified to make that call but maybe someone else could comment who is qualified. Just passing that one along. We sell a ton of Championship Mercury Ultra cloth for bar tables. This is very fast and a lot cheaper than Tour Edition or Simonis. It will definitely wear faster but the juice is worth the squeeze.
As far as rails, I'm biased, but we manufacture and sell the very best rails money can buy. We make rails for about 40+ different brands and sizes of coin tables. (Penguin Brand) www.penguinamusement.com
If your table was made in Bay City, Michigan before 1988 it will have U23 cushion. If it made in Bay City between 1988 and 2001 it will have K55 cushion. If it was made after the merger of Valley and Dynamo (VDLP) the rails will use K66. (usually, although I have seen brand new sets with mixed profiles)
All that doesnt really matter. What matters is that they are pefectly matched and that the cushion nose is in EXACTLY the right spot when installed. As long as you're working on the table install new pocket liners and gulley boots too. They're cheap, look good and keep your balls from getting scuffed. How about the back of the slate? Is it thick with glue? Clean it off so it sits level again. Look at all the slate ledges and make sure none are sagging or loose. Same with the aluminum braces across the center of the table. Spin the leg levelers to see if the're still straight and not all kaddywompus. Buy some Belgian Aramith balls (more $ more better) and a nice magnetic cue ball.
