Jayson dropping the extension

You may have noticed that in the PLP, Jayson Shaw no longer played with the full time extension on his cue like we were so used to. In an interview he said that he took it off one time at home for a practice session and the cue felt better but he was still able to move the cue ball easily, so he never put it back. He said paying with the extension on was a fashion and that he was copying other people.

I have tried both the short and long extensions on my cue, but I can feel it on the back swing and it bothers me. I ocassionaly put the extension on for a power shot, although if I'm not using side spin I have had good succes using my break cue for power shots.

The cue will feel different with or without an extension the extension is going to change the balance point. Maybe he wanted a new girlfriend

After watching him play with the extension for so long, it looks like he is playing a toothpick now. lol

He also worked with a snooker coach prior to the start of the PLP and I think it has made a difference.

Lots of players still use a full-time extension. I have a 3" cf ext. for my Mezz that i leave on. I'm 6'2" with long arms so i like it a lot. I took the bolt out so with the ext. on the cue weighs the same. BP is a little further back but nothing to sweat.

Seems like he goes back and forth using an extension for a time period and then dropping it for a while. He seems to have the same level of success either way. The extension he does use seems quite long- at least 8 inches.

I always wondered if his Long cue was over specs.
25 oz is WPA's max to be legal.

I noticed the same thing with Jayson. Interesting that he would go back like that. Who knows if it sticks or not.
Personally I always play with a 3" extension between the shaft and butt. Don't like the butt only extensions at all.
Those severely mess up the balance point. Much more than the shaft extensions.

I think he’s just trying to make some changes to his luck/game.

SVB did the same for a bit but went back to it, but did notice no break cue for his last two matches (like Jason). Shaw still breaks with the extension and glove.

Top pros/artists continually examine their performance capabilities and experiment continually.

They all have intuitively evolved and internalized a mechanism that enables them to compartmentalize two distinct functions:
-- Maintain what is working effectively for you . . .

-- . . . While creatively examining and projecting what new things/techniques/tools can potentially further elevate your performances (and your own gratifying enjoyment of expressing your talents & hard-wrought skills).

This dual compartmentalizing mechanism is historically true of all top athletes, entertainers, and the great performers in all the visual and literary arts.

From what i hear Shaw plans to consult with Earl on finger pods and arm weights.

For the past dozen or so years the experimental equipment changes have been: Earl to SVB to everyone else.
Earl started using a long cue, SVB started using a long cue, everyone and their league APA 4 mother started using a long cue. Earl used a Cuetec, SVB used a Cuetec and a glove, everyone is using a Cuetec and a glove now. I remember in the 80s and 90s, you were immediately thought of as an easy game if you had a Cuetec and a glove LOL
