Ok, here is a review of a Jeff Bell custom. I have been friends with Jeff for a few years. He is a great guy. He doesnt make very many cues. But what he makes Is high quality. I had him to make me a cue years ago. It was fantastic. It had a amboyna burl forearm cored with ivory sleeved joint and ivory ferrule. The butt was a beautiful piece of cherry burl. Talk about sharp. I got into a bad financial situation soon after and had to sell.
But on to the current cue i have. He put this cue on ebay not long ago. Soon as i saw it I was shocked because i hadnt talked to Jeff in about a year and he had it starting at 200 and there was only a day left and no bids. What a fine piece of cocobolo for the forearm, nice birdseye pts, Barbells and Maple windows, nice ebony and maple ringwork and ebony buttcap for 200 thats crazy. But he said the reason that he posted that cheap was because of minor finish flaws. Well when i received it was definitely very minor. I was maybe thinking bubbles under the finish. Nope just few raised spots about the size of pencil lead. Now that is a perfectionist.
200 and no bids. Well the pool community doesnt know what kind of cues Jeff makes evidently is what i thought. He is fairly an unknown but he builds a helluva cue. Also, the pics he took didnt do the cue justice. I emailed him and told him i wanted the cue. I told him that it was little heavy for me at 20oz and it was naturally weighted. So he bored out the butt some and got it down to 19.2. Its balanced great and hits fantastic. I really like that he used a thick coat of clear on his cues. It makes them look great. The cue is dead nuts straight and the joint is precision perfect. My friend is getting a pink ivory cue from him in couple weeks. I will post pics of it also.
I really like the use of the black with green specks with the browns of the cocobolo and phenolic brown joint. Very Classy looking. Heck of alot of cue for the money. What do you think?
