Sorry it took me so long to review this Jeff, but some unfortunate circumstances at work kept me from playing until today. I attached a couple pics (which have been seen on the Olney thread in the gallery forum).
This ebony and birdseye Hoppe cue arrived last Saturday from Jeff's shop. Once again start to finish with this project was great, as Jeff was easy to communicate with and was always concerned about customer satisfaction. The two 13mm shafts weigh in at 4.3 oz each, the low deflection shaft (top) weighs in at 4.2 oz. It is fitted with an Ivory flat face 3/8-10 (a workout to tighten) and a wizard medium layered tip.
This was supposed to be a review of the low deflection shaft but I am so pleased with the overall execution of this cue that I tend to get carried away.
A little background:
About ten years ago I started playing with predator shafts and and used the 314 series for about four or five years. I did try an OB1 shaft and enjoyed them as well, but returned to playing with regular shafts for the past few years (as most of the cues I purchased came with very nice shafts). This is really the first "low deflection" shaft I have played with in years.
After playing with the cue for about three hours I can honestly say this shaft suited my style of play very well. The cue delivered a solid, accurate stroke from varying distances using both inside and outside english. I tried shots that I wouldn't normally attempt just to see how it would perform and the results were well above what I anticipated. For me, the stroke I delivered required less effort than usual to get the desired result, which in turn allowed me to pocket balls more accurately and still get desired postion.
Everyone that owns one of Jeff's cues knows playability is uppermost in his mind when he builds his cues, and once again he really delivered. I would recommend anyone that enjoys playing with a low deflection shaft, try one of Jeff's. It has the solid feel of one of his quality normal shafts but plays in my opinion almost effortless.
