First of all, it's spelled O l i v i e r. Pronounced: O li vee yay
Second of all, if you paid 450.00 for it, you got a great deal.

oliver

i will post some picture as soon as i can.do you think that a 1 of 5 should be worth more than a plain oliver?i figure i can't lose in the long run.

$400 is a good price for it. Some clearer photos of it might have netted more - I didn't see the JO on the butt and the signature wasn't clearly displayed which is what kept me from bidding on it.

Oh, and a cue's only worth how much someone is willing to pay for it. :D

Really?

THAT'S A GOOD FIND. I NEVER SAW IT ON THE BAY...........E-BAY IS A PRETTY GOOD JUDGE OF WHAT A CUE WILL BRING. SO I'D HAVE TO SAY IN THE 400 RANGE.
As a retailer, I've seen ebay become a buyers market. Cues seem to NOT bring what they are worth. Just an observation on my part.

I don't believe this one would bring $1500.00 anywhere, but it is worth more than $500.00. Collectibility is questionable at this time though. Maybe down the road.

signature

I would strongly disagree (not a personal attack) that Ebay is a good judge of what is cue is worth. The pool community in general does not shop on Ebay. High price collectors dont always shop on Ebay either. I have seen import junk cues that retail for $19.99 at Walmart go for over a hundred dollars on Ebay. I have also seen custom one of a kind cues from Scruggs, Richard Black and others not get a single bid. I have also seen the identical cue go for $200 one time and $750 the next (a $595 Viking). What does that say about the REAL VALUE of that cue?!?!? That tells me the TYPICAL Ebayer is not very educated about cues. Cues are still a work of art in many cases. Just because the people looking at it dont like it doesnt mean it is not worth anything. I have seen many pieces of art valued in the millions of dollars on the Sotheby's website I wouldnt pay $10,000 for but...."the eye of the beholder" ...seems to say different. In order for any product on Ebay to get the true value you have to have several people bidding that know the product AND be willing to PAY a fair price for the product. Only then does it go for what it is really worth. Remember the $5,000 Beanie Babies anyone? You really think those were a good investment? This is not an attack on anyone that bids or sells on Ebay. Just an attack on the Ebay system that does not reflect on what true values are. I will repeat so that no one takes it personally. Not an attack on particular buyers or sellers on Ebay. Just my opinion that Ebay is rarely dead on the mark for somethings true value. The online bidding system still has a ways to go before the market gets back to balance. You either get a super deal...or you get screwed on Ebay. Not a whole lot in the middle...my $.02.

PS. Since I sell Jerry Olivier cues...I must say the buyer in this case got a GREAT deal. Saved at least $300 bucks. Good eye.

Part Of Me Agrees That Ebay Is A Buyers Market, But Cues Are A Buyers Market. The Cue Is Only Worth What Someone Will Pay For It, And More Buyers See It On Ebay Than Anywhere Else. Ebay Is Tough For Collector Cues, But Their Are Enough Collectors That Watch Ebay, (myself Included), That It's Very Rare That Someone Gets A Killer Deal There. The Bidding In My Opinion Is Usually A Decent Gauge Of What A Cue Will Bring. To Be Honest In This Case I Could Totally Off Base, Because Most Serious Collectors Don't Buy Olivier Cues, Nor Are They Considered(in My Opinion) To Be Collectible Cues. He Makes A Nice Cue, But Not All Nice Cues Are Collectable.

As someone alwasy stated, "Oh, and a cue's only worth how much someone is willing to pay for it."

And eBay is the largest single venue for the cue market and thus, in my opinion, reflect the fair market for majority of cues. Occassional, there are unusual fluctuations but overall, it's fairly stable. I also noticed that highly collectible cue transactions, even listed, are done off eBay; thus more difficult to estimate the fair market value.

This board may represent fairly sophisticated buyers/sellers and we are WAY more cheap ass than eBay :D

Olivier cue

You got a great deal on a great shooting cue.One of my league teammates swears by his Olivier and swears it hits as godd as his Cognoscenti.:D
