Just came across this cue and am wondering what you all think of it. I have not owned a Buss cue before and am considering adding it to my collection. Anyone out there who could give me some feedback on Buss cues and the approx. value would be appreciated.

Early Jim Buss 6 Point Pool Cue:am told it was made in the late 80s. It is a simple but nice cue featuring a maple forearm w/ 6 rosewood points, alternating 3 short and 3 long. It has an unfinished Irish linen wrap and a rosewood butt sleeve. This cue is used and has been played but is still very nice. It is straight and rolls well both together and apart and has never been repaired. There is light wear as the pictures show. It weighs in at 19 oz and has a 13 mm tip.

Jim Buss and his brother both make cues. One of the brothers is a rocket science guy and the other brother is kind of a shadowy figure in the background. I forget his first name. Their cues enjoy a reasonably good reputation in the business. I've never had one in my hands so I can't help you out any more than this. I think both of the Buss brothers are listed in the 3rd ediition cue book.

Hey Dave,

3rd Edition BB - 2 to 6 points, 0 to 8 inlays; 98% valued at $700, 90% value is $550, 70% value is $375. It should come with 2 shafts; if it only has one you need to deduct $100. If it has an ivory ferrule you can add $50. If it has been refinished improperly deduct 25%.

So there ya go ;)

Thanks guys for the info. Should really get me one of those blue books.
Cue should be here next week. Thinking I might have it refinished. Hoping Mr Buss will do the work himself. David

We are located two blocks up the street from Jim Buss Custom Cues. He and George (his brother) have done our cue repairs ever since they moved here from Texas. His reputation is top notch and he is still on the board of the American Cuemakers Association, treasurer. I would guesstimate the value in the $600 dollar range. Depending on condition of course. You can visit his website at www.jimbuss.com . He is very good with responding to legitimate polite emails.
