JNimmy White - 155

An obvious set up - every ball is clearly hand placed in position, but still had to be done.

Not sure about the camera work though. A lot of suspicious cuts from one to the other provides plenty of scope to repeat missed shots, and the cutaway when balls are colliding is also suspicious. Only a continuous single point of view would be acceptable evidence of authenticity. I think this is definitely a case of staging what a theoretical 155 break would look like.

Boro did I ever tell about the time I had a 155 break playing Bill Werbeniuk for beers? Only kidding I missed the third red. Who hit the 155 years ago, I am thinking somebody did this already. Jamie Burnett??

I've got Jimmy's autobiography "Behind the White Ball" and couldn't get through it. Easily the worst autobiography I've ever read, possibly the worst book written in the Queens English.

The best thing about the book happen to be some early pictures of him before he had an extensive amount of work done to his teeth. I really can't even begin to describe the hilarity. Think Austin powers, then think about 10 times worse. Better yet, think of a donkey with large gaps between each tooth.

you dont think the players today set up a break shot and start their runs is straight pool.

doesnt take away from the run. i play snooker all the time on a 12x6 and my high run is like 50 lol

Jamie Cope made a 155 in a practice match in 2005.

Jame Burnette made a 148, the highest break in professional competition in 2004.

Wally West made a 151 in competition in a club match in 1976

Of course it's a set up, it almost looks like line up with a couple balls thrown about. I don't think anyone would be fooled that this is part of a match.

Actually Ray I've just finished reading Bill's autobiography and if his version of events is to be believed you've been guilty of more than a little exageration. Naughty boy. There you are crowing to the world that you took 20 pints of beer off Bill Werbeniuk, and it turns out they were only 500ml glasses. By Bill's reckoning he rooked you out of a clear 2½ pints on the day.

Sounds like he may have actually written it then, as i was told some ten years ago by someone who knew him well the only thing he could write was an autograph as he hardly ever went to school.

Boro it was a 155 and I missed the green, then I bet him a beer I could pick him up over my head. Hey Boro how do you think my boy Mark Allen is going to do this year at the World's?

Congratulations! I never even knew you were a father.

I think he's a future world champ. But I don't think his time has come just yet.

Why impugn Jimmy's honesty

OK, so the starting position, pot on brown in line for position on black was set up but after that? Do you really think JW would claim to have made the extra 8 and then go on to make a max if he hadn't actually done so? Just for the sake of a youtube video?

Comments to that effect obviously come from people who don't know much about JW.

And for one thing, making a 147 in practise isn't that rare...especially if you're playing with a mate and it doesn't matter if you miss, like no World Championship at stake, so just go for it every chance you get.

How many people on this forum could even run 47? Precious few I bet.

I think quite a few, but what's 47?

Well . . . have to say that I read the same book and thought it was great. Just goes to show that one man's beer is another man's dog spit.

obviously rubbish

but if you, Slasher are so much better than JW, how come nobody's ever heard of you?

I don't care how many people on this forun can make a break of 47 (that's 100 less than a max for the mathematically challenged out there) or more. What I care about is intelligent discussion. If that's not here then 'Goodbye', I won't waste my time.

If you don't know such obvious sarcasm when you read it I suggest you just sit quiet. By the way my mum has heard of me :P

obvious sarcasm

Yes indeed, Slasher, my reply was sarcasm too. Here we have the classic forum conundrum of missed communication signals.

But enough of that. I found it odd that people immediately started from the point of view that Jimmy must have faked his 155. Of course he did - insofar as he set it up to begin with (and perhaps even scattered the balls around to give himself half a chance) but so what?

I'd much rather discuss more interesting aspects of snooker. If such can't be found on this site then I won't bother with it. And so what if I do or don't?
