Is this Joey Testa form New Jersey area? Just curious. I played a Joey Testia from this area last year in Vegas, if not sorry.

Ha! I think everybody who played in a Mini-Mania event last year played Joe. I must have heard his name called a million times during last year's APA NTC.

I'm pretty sure it's the same guy.

He beat me 66-0, me being an 8. I only got 3 kick shots in the whole match. Good luck Joey.

I got 28 points off of him and I'm a 7.:D Now I don't feel so bad. I seem to remember him being a fast player. I hope he does well.

Joey needs every bit of luck, he will be up against the Volcano,
Ronnie Alcano in his next match...

I'm guessing Joey was an APA 9? Even so, I would like to give yet another congratulations to the APA on allowing top players to sneak into their events and rob them. Good job APA!

Actually, based on the score that mouse gave, it sounds like he was an 8 and not a 9. A 9 would have had to score 75 and he won with 66.

Joey's luck ran out. He met his match in Ronnie "The Volcano" Alcano.
The match wasn't even close, 11 games to 4...

At APA nationals, Mini-Mania events have shorter races to save time. I'm not sure if the race is to 66 or not, but it's shorter than 75. I played Joe last year, and I got 54.

And yes, I'm a 9.

So "top players" shouldn't be allowed to play in an amateur event?

The APA is for AMATEURS. That does not exclude "top players." I know Joe has done well in some regional events and he's obviously having a good run at the Open, but that doesn't mean he's a pro, and it doesn't mean he should be banned from APA events.

And yes, Joe did play as a 9 last year at the APA NTC.

Thanks for the clarification. I stand corrected.

I have no problem with Joe playing in the APA, but I think letting Jason Kirkwood play is pushing the envelope. By the way my problem isn't with Jason it's with the APA's screening of pro players, or lack of screening.

Kirkwood is no longer allowed to play in APA events. He was allowed to play in this year's Masters event in Vegas because he had played in his league and paid his fees and dues for the entire season, and the APA didn't feel it would be right to allow him to do that, then ban him in Vegas (I know this because a protest was filed against Dream Team - Michigan at the APA NTC for having Kirkwood on the team). While I feel he shouldn't have been allowed to play in his league in the first place, I do think the APA did the right thing in Vegas since he actually was allowed to play in a Masters league. I'm not sure what the circumstances were surrounding the decision to allow him to play in the league, but more than likely that was made by the area's LO. They should be the "first line of defense" for issues like this, and I find it hard to believe the LO didn't think Kirkwood is a pro.

I do agree with you that there needs to be a better screening process to determine who is a pro and who isn't, and who's allowed to play and who isn't. The BCA has a list compiled; I think the APA should do the same. However, I don't think such a list should be determined based solely on playing ability, as cuetechasaurus seems to think (although I could be misinterpreting his post - I'm sure he'll let me know if I am).

Babineau's in Raleigh recently held a US Amateur qualifier and BJ Ussery was not allowed to play, even though he was allowed to play at the Masters tournament in Vegas. I'm hoping this is a sign that the APA is paying increased attention to the amateur vs. pro issue.

anyone that knows joey knows it aint about luck. he lost but he moved very well with ronnie. they played 10 different kick safes on 2 different 2 balls. then ronnie banks a 4 ball cross corner longways like its practice and runs out. ronnie did to him what he did to parica. i watched both matches from the front row. he can beat anyone at anytimes no luck at all. im sure he'd try you some even!
