I was going to post this in the cue review section....
This is cue number 100 from John Bender. Now I have known John for a long time, and I was not surprised when he started building cues. Before he did, he spent countless hours with Richard Black and most of you might know John and not realize he was the one attending in Richards booth's at many shows.
John builds traditional 4 point cues, widow cues, exotic wood cues, and whatever suits him at the time. He does take orders but builds a few just from his own mind. John's standard taper is short, but he does that because he allows you to adjust accordingly. But he will build to a more standard 10" or so taper or any taper on request.
My cue is a 4 point ebony with birsdeye maple classic style cue. Veneers are black, yellow, blue and white. There is a Bushka ring above the wrap. The butt sleeve design is a window and barbell design (all ivory), with some colored veneer rings and vertical veneers. I designed this pattern because I like window boxes, ivory windows and barbells. The great thing about the design is, only the dots are "inlays". John uses no panto OR CNC. The butt cap is the ivory delrin from Atlas. Wrap is black smooth from Martin at Superior and its extremely close to the old Bushka black. 12.75mm ivory ferruled shafts, morri tips and a 10" taper at my request.
The cue hits very solid and very reminiscent of the older cues. The smooth leather is fantastic and I recommend it to anyone who likes leather. The cue is a tad heavy but you cannot feel it because of the balance.
Fit and finish is getting better on every cue he builds which is the mark of someone that is not only learning their craft, but advancing their skills. Johns point work and finish is so much better than his early cues and I say that because I know what the early remarks were. This has come because he is getting more experience and more experience means a better product.
Do not hesitate to order a cue, a custom cue at these prices are hard to find.
