John Parris Snooker Cues, what do we think?

I am sure that you would be very pleased if you ordered one and if made to your specs, updates on the progress are easy to come by.

I have had a Parris cue for a number of years and found them excellent to deal with. When making my decision on which to order I splurged and bought an Ultimate. My rationale and excuse to my wife, was that if I golfed I would be spending more on clubs and changing them every few years. Originally I wanted a ? jointed cue but after speaking with John he convinced me that 3/4 jointed was the route to take. Like other posters here has pointed out, JP set the standard that others followed. I am sure you could find a number of makers produce cues to the same standards. As always, who produces the best cue is very subjective.

Knowing that I have no intention of buying another snooker cue for myself is statement enough as to what I think of JP cues. With a table at home I am looking into purchasing a Mastercraft for my guests, so I am curious to compare though.

is a 59" snooker too long? since my last back operation I have no way to get my chin anyway near the cue, the longer the cue the closer I can get to it, how long can a snooker cue be that is reasonable. I played pool for a few years with a 60" cue, but mostly a 58" cue the 25 years I've played, although recently I moved up to a 59", I have no choice.

my snooker table was delivered the other day and I need a cue, I dont mind to sart with something and then change cues as I figure out what I want, years ago my best break was 53 or 56 I cant remember on a 12' American table with tough pockets, not golf tough but tough, I havent player snooker in so long it will be like starting over, I also used a pool cue back then, this time I want to do it right, so whats a up the middle kinda long snooker cue considered to be, I want a 3/4 also I need extensions because of my back I cant reach very good anymore.

thanks in advance

I don?t think 60 inches is too long. I am sure that any cue maker can accommodate you. I have a pair(one for the cue that other for the rake) of slip on extensions that will reach all parts of the table. By going this route other people can use them for their cues also.

Congratulations on the arrival of your table. If I might offer two suggestions, buy some extra cue balls for practicing shots that run away from yourself(it?s a big table). Also buy an extra black. When playing around the black, it helps to not disrupt your rhythm by often have a black in the near pocket for spotting.

I played for 10 years in Ireland with a Riley and for the last 7 years out here in the States I have used (not that often!) a Parris custom that my wonderful wife bought me as a wedding present. I really wish I had the Parris because it is a million times better than the Riley and it is just a beautiful cue to play with. I hit a 133 break the third game I ever played with it and that was on a worn old table here in Philly with beat up pool cloth. I am not the best person to compare but I love my Parris and I wouldnt trade for the world.

fatboy, you got your own snooker table? i'm so jealous!!! there used to be a snooker table near me, but the place closed about 6 months ago, so no more snooker for me :(

i do but its in a zillion pieces scattered around the floor in the room its gonna be installed in, I cant wait.....but I have to :( . The wood etc has to acclimate to the dry air here in Vegas, most tables that are installd here will start to roll off after a few months because the wood needs time. Cues are the same way a 40 year old Bushka is fine but new cues by new cue makers who havent aged their wood sometimes tent to warp a little, I saw a Thomas Wayne cue get so bad once the inlays started to pop out on it, I have had problems with a few cues, never any old cues though.

Even furnature has problems, i'm in the furnature biz, i know I cant spell it but it cracks up terribly, spindals on chairs or legs on tables will split sometimes, dining table tops will crack so wide you can slide a credit card in the cracks.

so back to my snooker table, I'm gonna let it sit in the house, which isnt air conditioned for the next 2-3 months and it will acclimate, i doubt there will be any serious trouble but if there is I have it worked out wioth Riley to replace any wood that warps, I doubt it will be that bad, the fitters are comming in from London or where ever they live to do it, same guys who are in Sheffield at the world championships now. It will be done right, unless they sabatoge it so they can come come back to Vegas to re-level it in a few months ;) ;) . Also I have some other construction running late and I'm not ready, hencethe no-A/C, I live in a guest house behind the main house.

Its gonna be awesome, I just hope I remember how to play like I did, I had a high Break of 53 or 56 in 89, I play much better pool now when i'm in stroke than I did then, My long term goal is 80. I dont think I have what it takes to get past that especially with the small tournment pockets, not the practice table big pockets, I havent had a snooker table near me to play on in over 18 years. sux.

sorry for the long post. just in the mood to type, i cant play pool tonight my back still hurts to much :( . i though I was going to be able to.

the good news is you welcome to come play on it anytime your in Vegas, hell anyone is for that matter. no drugs, booze, or guns and its all good. :) well ok guns are fine....

tip, balls, and chalk-contact pt is 360 degree's of all balls

I'm not able to add much but I play on a 5-10, snooker, so that I get accur practice, for all pool games. I use 2- 1970 mcdermott shafts on a Ernie Martinez pool cue. One longer and the standard. works for me, I'm looking to play with my ob-1 on Ernie. I think all the cues I own play all games,8-ball, 9-ball 10-ball, banks, 14.1 rotation, why wouldn't it play snooker is beyond me. thanks mark I'd like a parris, but I would use it for pool as well, same thoughts the parris could play8,9,10,ball,14.1 as well thanks mark

Because all those games use the same balls and tables, just the rules are changed? whereas is snooker the balls are smaller and the table bigger.
