Here you have a professional pool player in the truest sense and he doesn't have one sponsor, other than that nut lock artist, Purdman who never passes up an easy buck.

Seriously, here is a guy who has all of the All-American qualities an athlete should have: Besides super-talented, dedicated, professional, personable, good-looking (or so the ladies say,) healthy, smart and POPULAR. They say that his signed photograph was in the greatest demand of any U.S. OPen Champion EVER............................................. The guy should be contacted by Wheaties cereal. He's as clean as they come in both senses of the word. He's plays golf pretty sporty (but we won't hold that against him).

I would imagine he will be called up for the Mosconi Cup, the $50,000 winner take all tournament in Connecticut and many other invitationals and he deserves them all.

So, when and who is the "next" sponsor going to jump on the Gravy Train of Mr. 400?

If one of the glove guys doesn't give him a good deal on a glove sponsorship, I'm going to start importing printed pool gloves from the Orient and cut John in on the action. I'm sure we can make a "special" All-American - John Schmidt glove. Gee, that's too long. Got any ideas for a name for a John Schmidt Glove. It will be black only and no leather or other fancy BS. Simple and effective is what the glove is all about. Material will probably be 85% Nylon and 15% Spandex. Any thoughts or ideas?

Oh, yeah, who would like to take pool lessons from John Schmidt? List your contact information and I will forward it to him. You can PM me or John. I think he is still reading AZ but it is hard for him to type and so he hardly ever responds. I hope his few detractors will leave him alone and let him enjoy his year of EARNED glory.

You can call the glove "schmidtty" :D

There's a few of us out there throwing John's name out in hopes that he gets a sponsor. A mutual friend of ours was talking John up to a potential sponsor not too long ago. While he was talking accomplishments, I of course had to pipe in with how marketable he can be... he's always taken good care to dress nice, cares about his appearance, and he's got that million dollar smile. I sincerely hope something comes of it. Of course winning the Open had to make an impression...

Yep, I have an idea (as always). Call it the "Full Of Schmidt." Advertising slogan of, "Slide your hand in one these and be Full Of Schmidt" or, "I wouldn't go to the John without one."

.....And patience for all

Didn't he win the Open a mere 9 days ago?. Give it time. Sponsors like to know a player is tried and true, with winning the Open, that's no longer a question. The doorbell will be ringing soon.

John Schmidt's Sponcer

John is sponcered by Bobby Hunter Custom Cues, another fine representative of our sport. You couldn't find two clasier guys in the pool world. I have a feeling John is gonna do just fine.

OK, "John Schmidt wore this glove and won the U.S.Open, so Open up your game and be a winner" or, "Don't take a powder, just slide on a Schmidt 'Open glove" or, "you won't sweat it with a Scmidt glove."

Doug
( "Put you sticky fingers in a glove you'll love. John Schmidt did and won the U.S.Open )
(I need some coffee,now)

("You've got to hand it to him, the ______ glove." )

Well ...

I suggested that John have a nickname of 'Kaboom' because of the way he went through the competition on the 1 loss side, so you could
have the 'Kaboom Glove', it cleans out the competition.... lol

Obviously, the 'Mr. 400 glove' would be good. Or the 'Smitty glove'. John does seem to be a very marketable person.

Okay. Real quick. Who won the US Open last year?

Who won it the year before?

Hell, you probably could ask them who won it this year and they wouldn't know.

Unfortunately if you ask those questions to the average league player most likely 95% could not come up with an answer. They probably don't know who won this year and most likely will think you are asking about golf or tennis when you ask the question.

Check with Sarah Ellerby for her secrets on how to find a sponsor. She has plenty. Poor Karen, #2 in women's pool, has no sponsor.

Some people are photogenic and some aren't. John Schmidt is VERY photogenic, while Nick Varner isn't. Just look at Nick's picture in my avatar.:-)

Doug
( oops, my mistake )

Nick Varner won the U.S. Open last year?? I thought it was Alex Pagulayan (okay, I'm a smartass). Year before that it was Gabe Owen (another marketable fellow).

And then the list of champions gets VERY fuzzy in my mind...
