)))) John Showman FS ((((

The reason his cues are so expensive is because he lives not to far from me in Safety Harbor, FL. But seriously, it is what it is. You could say his cues are too expensive, and his waiting list is too long, but at the end of the day people pay the price, and he stays busy. I wish I had the dough to buy one! That cue is sweet, and it is a fair price. It will sell, and it will play great, and hold it's value. He don't make that many.

Just a little side note. Someone asked me if it was signed. I dont think I've ever seen one signed. It's not but if you get a magnifying glass you'd be amazed. John has Showman inscribed into the joint pin. I cant tell you how small it is but it's pretty neat when you see it under the loupe so to speak! It's super tiny. Thanks for the compliments guys.

I should apologize before I even start this responses so......I'm sorry for being ignorant and I am not trying to screw up your sale but........

What is so special about this fairly plain cue with 4 points and veneers that it commands an asking price over $4k.

Please explain this to me.

I have seen a lot of this lately with certain cues and it just makes no sense to me. And most of them are from relatively newer makers. I can understand if it was from one of the masters like Bill Stroud. I saw Josswest for sale here not long ago that had more work and it had a hard time selling for $1200. I have heard that John makes nice cues but $4K? Come on.....Really?

Whats the deal?

this would be best suited for the cue review forum. hang around a while and learn something about the cue market before hijacking someones thread for a cue that is probably worth more than your car...oh yeah, and i should apologize before i even write this.....:speechless:.....im such a jerk lol!

that price is in the ball park, if Barry built it it would cost even more, John gets big $$$ for his cues because they are among the best cues currently being made(a widly held opinion), he takes alot of time to build them(that shows when you see/play with one). so with so few forsale and the demand, the numbers make sence, futhermore I dont see them slipping in price either. Its alot smarter to buy this cue for $4K than it is 10 cues for $400ea.

Szamboti,Balabushka's sold for a few hundred when they were sold many years ago and now command anywhere from 5000 up to 50000 or more. Top 5 cueaker cues are hard to get, when you get into high end cues there's more to them then just there hit. Showman and Searing cues have 5-10 year waits and Ron Haley is 10 + years out so this is some of the reason these cues cost alot. JW cues are so common that there market price has been driven down like some other very good cuemakers....when production is 100 plus cues a years it effects there price after 20 years of cuemaking. What makes a baseball card worth 1000 bucks?....there's only a few made and cues can be just the same.

Charley,
Very nice post"
I have to agree ...
Just like ANYTHING ELSE Rare/Collectable ,
sometimes they can cost more

I will admit that after seeing Rodney "Rocket" Morris's Showman, I'm definitely interested in pulling the trigger. Unfortunately this is a little out of my price range at this time. Beautiful cue......

If the veneer pattern was black, green, orange, and maple on ebony points, that was mine a couple of years ago.
Sweet series of cues that were great players.
The one being offered for sale is also a beauty and I bet a sharp shooter as well.

To the front with this new John Showman cue! I can happily put it back in the safe. On EBAY til the weekend. Thanks for all the compliments guys.

Yeah, I find it difficult to pull the trigger on cues like this too. I know who John is and I know his cues. Personally, I have a Mottey and Scruggs that look almost exactly like this and they also play lights out. Not to mention that they are 1989 and 1983 respectively. None of those are being made again either. Can I get this kind of price for my Mottey now that he's retired?

It is a gorgeous cue though. Hats off to the owner and I do wish him/her luck with the sale.

Is it really that bad to be discussing about an item that is for sale in its own thread? I know a lot of people thinks likewise but lacks the courage to voice that question in fear of getting shot down.

I think it is refreshing to hear some honest opinion. like someone said. the seller can sell it for whatever people are willing to pay for. If it does not sell the seller can reduce the price accordingly.

I say, so long as there is no malice or out to disrupt a sale. Some opinion is always healthy.

There is no official top 5 cue maker and opinion of top 5 often varies from people to people. But the fact that the seller can ask such a price for this cue says a lot about the quality and the acknowledgment John Showman gets.
