John Wright Died?

All I know is that he died this past weekend of a heart attack. I have tried to get funeral info to no avail.

Wow! What a month. John McChesney, Sang Lee and now John Wright. Three icons of the industry. Godspeed to all of them.

I just got a call and apparently John collapsed at home after he had done some shopping last Friday night. He was cremated this past week, there were no services.

Its a shame.. John practically pioneered the secondary cue market. He was to my knowledge the first "Used Cue Dealer". He was the first I remember to take ad's out in publication and have a mailing list. Guys like myself owe a debt to John, and if I was able to start and maintain a cue dealers association, our first award would bare his name.

Only met John once. I ran into him at Country Club USA outside Boston, MA. He was there for the finals of a New England Pool Tour event. He was the first cue guy to tell me that buying one of his cues would improve my game 20%. I always smile when I think of that. That event was probably over ten years ago. Haven't seen or heard about him since, till today. Heres hoping there is a pool players heaven.
John did much more than just sell used cues. Several of your most popular high end cuemakers, if truth was told, got their big break through John Wright. Until the Hopkins show allowed all the top cuemakers to meet the Japanese collectors and dealers, John was one of the main middlemen. He would find a cuemaker who did really clean top notch work and promote them to his rich clients in Chicago, across the US and overseas. I only sold John one cue that a Japanese client had requested John purchase from me for him. John sent me a whole letter showing me what the high end collectors expect in a cue. Everything from how narrow they want the inlays to be, to how deep the rubber bumper should be in butt.
Some of his suggetions I shrugged off and others I used. I talked to John a few months ago and he said business was very bad for him at the time. I was sorry to hear that as he was at one time the person to see for a high end cue. He will surely be missed.

thats what john was, talked to him a hundred times but never met face to face. i was very shocked cause he just called me 2 weeks ago and said everything was good. boy i would love to see a collection of cues that went through his hands. sorry to see him go.
p.s. if anyone wants a tibbits they might now have a chance as he has been selling only to john for a long time.

What A Loss - What A Good Man!
I met John About 10 years ago when I wanted my Balabushka authenticated. I asked everyone in the pool world who is THE BEST to do this for me. The response was unanimous. JOHN!
While in his basement in the room with the pool table, he asked me to leave the room. He had my stick all apart. He wanted to make a secret mark inside that only he would know about & make a record of it.
I was very impressed with his knowledge and system. He wanted me to go out to dinner with him and then to the poolroom to play some locals but I was in a big hurry to return to St. Louis. I wish now I would have taken the time to get to know him better. He seemed like a truly nice man.
