Would I age?

Thanks for that. I took the time to transcribe exactly what Johnny had to say about it:

I try to keep it as simple as possible. When I teach, when I show guys, I say, "Listen. Really the number one thing you have to do is concentrate on the cue ball, because that's all you really ever hit. If you can't hit the cue ball where you want to hit it, meaning your bridge ain't in the correct position, or whatever the case is, if you can't hit the cue ball where you want to, you're not going to be able to hit that [points to the OB] where you want."

So, at least we know what JA thinks the answer is, and why.

Johnny Archer asked on Facebook:

I got a question for everyone. Is it more important to: A) Hit the cueball correctly or B) Aim correctly to the shot? Answer A or B, please.

That is odd because without either of those you will miss. It's like asking is it more important to breathe in or out?

Maybe the question should be "what should a player learn to do first"?

Maybe. Or maybe, "that's where a player needs to devote most of his efforts"? That might have been clearer, but I think Johnny wanted to present it as a puzzle to get folks to think deeper about it.

I don't think it's as tough as it seems. Aiming is relatively easy. Delivering the CB to the target is the hard part, therefore, it's the most important part. Not the only part, though.

I really don't think JA is recommending to aim at the cute waitress at table 3 in order to make the ball. Of course, you still have to aim somehow, even if it's by feel. However, shot after shot, game after game, match after match, and all things considered, the player who hits the CB best wins the most, while the player who aims the best may never win a game if he can't hit the CB right.

Somebody quoted Phil Capelle on Archer's FB thread:

"I've never heard a player say they were in "dead aim". That's because great aiming does not lead to dead stroke, but dead stroke does lead to uncanny accurancy."

'Nuf said as far as I'm concerned.
