Johnny Archer Runs 120 at FastMikie's Fun House

It happened earlier this year, in April, when Johnny Archer and Nick Varner stopped by to give me a few lessons. We were taking turns (Johnny, me, Nick, me... so I got to shoot twice as much as they did). I missed my break shot, then left a bank into a 4 or 5 ball combination for Johnny, which he executed to perfection. It was such a sweet shot I figured I'd just let him go and see what he could do. Well, he just kept going, talking and teaching and shooting and dealing with all the distractions, all the way to 120, like it was no problem at all.

The best part is that I got it all on video:

Enjoy!

Nice To see you again Mikey. I am a fan of your Blog. Some of the best practice drills i have seen are from your blog.

Mike you have managed to live the dream of almost any serious pool player!
I love the way you describe it...."Johnny and Nick just stopped by to give me a lesson...."

They could just stop by my place anytime they like 24/7 ...365 days a year!

Your video has to be the "coup d’état " and then you are nice enough to share it with the rest of us too! WOW!

I tell all my friends about that video and recommend that anyone who loves pool should watch it.... especially anyone who aspires to be good at 14.1!

Thanks for the vicarious experience!

I have to say that it's a real pleasure and a joy to watch Johnny Archer play when he's not spending time picking lint and thinking, thinking and thinking before each shot.

It's a great video.

Thanks

Great videos. Do you own a Waco?

Dave Nelson

Dave... I did own a Waco open cockpit biplane for about 7 years, and went flying almost every day, all over the USA and Europe, but I stopped flying in 2000 so I could do some other things (shooting pool, etc). I see you are/were an airline pilot, so you know that flying, especially adventure flying, is downright addictive and takes over Life completely, very much like shooting pool.

Here's a photo of a painting of the Waco. It's me, flying low and slow over the surf at Del Mar, CA:

Here's a photo my real biplane, on the first day it saw sky, the day it was rolled out of the factory for the first time, the first time it rested on grass:

Here's a link to some stories about my biplane adventures:

See what you did? You got me talking about flying! Aviators love flying, but when they can't be flying, they love to talk about it almost as much!

:)

Thank you for posting this video! I have watched this more than once. I would like to see how many I can run with Nick Varner as a shot selection coach. Johnny is a great player for sure no matter what game is being played!

now i know why johnny plays slowly in big tournaments. as good as he is, he still made several big mistakes which could have stopped his run. the best advice i got from those vids is when archer -in his southern drawl- teaches that it's unwise to baby a break-shot. i laughed outloud when nick mused about winning a championship when his opponent did just that. archer then said: "WAS IT REMPE?".... interestingly enough, i saw a vid of rempe blow a game against reyes (which he should have won) by being timid.
