The thread about the book by Eddie Taylor's travelling buddy got me to thinking about Mr. Taylor again.

Can't remember the name of the 2nd floor room in Johnson City, Tennessee. Can anybody help me out here? Wonder if the book has a particular ET story about that room. I doubt it, don't remember any other kids being around Eddie that night.

btw, I don't mean Johnston City, Ill and the Jansco room. That's a whole 'nother train of thought. 8-)

Was it the Chucky Trading Company? That's an ole time pool room in Johnson City, TN

that would be Numans, and its still there.

From their webpage it doesn't appear to be on a 2nd floor.

is there an entrance around back?

I'm always interested in the history of old buildings in the Tri-cities area.

I don't get back home enough.

Also their webpage says they opened back in 1991 not the 1960's or 1970's.

Quote from the webpage link above:

"This Downtown building was a wreck when Dan first looked at it in 1991. He decided it would be a good investment because of the price.

Little did he know what he was in for. Almost twenty years later he is still working and repairing. The building is now in its best condition and every part of it is useable.

He has re-roofed it twice, the first time was not done properly, so he did it himself the second time.

The electric service was almost nonexistent, the plumbing was a joke, several of the floors were buckled, and ceilings were on the floor.

It took almost two years to get it done enough so he could open one small part of the bar, restaurant.

It now has a main floor with 100 seat restaurant, a full bar, 9 pool tables, 5 table poker room, a small stage and seating area. The second floor has two bars, a main stage and dancing area and 12 pool tables.

There is a half floor above the kitchen with an office and a two bedroom, one bath guest quarters.

On the second floor we built a 1500 sq ft one bedroom apartment and we are in the process of adding a master bedroom and bath which will make it a 2000sq ft, two bedroom, two bath. Sometimes it is OK to live above your business and other times you would like to just get away from it. Here are some pictures of our apartment as it was being built. I don't have pictures of what this space looked like to begin with. It was about 9 or 10 small rooms in very bad condition. "

Nah, it was before either Chucky or Numan's.

I wish I could remember names better. Hell, I can't remember my nieces and nephews half the time. And I'm trying to remember something from 40 years ago. Oh well... lol

Hmm, I don't really know then Choir Boy, I played mostly at Bob's pool room in Gate City or Coy Ward's Cherokee Billiards at 5 points in Kingsport. There's a nice room in downtown Kingsport that I've stopped at in my trips back home the last few years.

Ah, well, never mind, then. Just strolling down memory lane. My mind was kind of addled in those days. Spent most of my time sleeping in the back seat while others drove to the next town. When I wasn't sleeping, I was reading or playing. We've all got those memories I suppose. Nice to find this place and revive a few.

Someone mentioned Jay Helfert in another thread. So I looked him up on the net. And I just downloaded his book onto my Kindle. How come I don't know this guy? His first couple stories are about people I know pretty well.

Interesting, to say the least.

I watched Billy Incardona play Cicero Murphy. Rotation Slim was Cicero's manager at the time, though he wasn't so slim any longer. This was before Billy went out to Vegas. And Slim had Cicero quit after only a couple games. Said Billy was too tough. He sure as hell was. 8-)

I still remember Cicero and his slow backstroke with an elbow that turned to the side just before the transition and coming straight down and through the ball. That was the day I learned a sweet stroke means nothing. It's getting through the ball that counts.

Next time you see Billy, ask him if he remembers Dickie Bye. Left handed player almost as good and almost as pretty as Billy. 8-) Dickie had a way with the ladies and he liked to dress well. I still remember him telling me that I had to spend more on my socks. That my socks just wouldn't do. The ladies noticed such things he said. lol

Gotta love pool players...

Choir Boy it's nice to have you here. Please don't get embroiled in the endless discussions among us bangers about how to play. We are dying to hear more about the golden age of pool and road stories if you choose to share.
