One thing to remember is that when facing off shafts to align them is to put a dial indicator on your bed. One thousand of an inch of facing taken off of a 3/8-10 joint will give you 1/100th of a turn plus new compression which also varies. That may not seem like much. But take off a few thousandths when trying to line up 12 or 24 slot rings and you can go too far in a hurry. The finer the thread the more movement you will get with the facing. Also on this cue that needs to move a good bit to align, most likely the shaft will become smaller than the butt and have to have several coats of finish applied to build it back up to the size of the butt.
