What is the reasoning or sience behind the different thread patterns? Just seems to be a large variety here to choose from.

What is the reasoning or sience behind the different thread patterns? Just seems to be a large variety here to choose from.

Some pins are better than others; straighter, more accurate, more highly polished so as not to damage wood threads in the shaft, and more weight options. For instance the Radial Pin (TM) is available
in G10, Titanium, Aluminum, Stainless Steel and Brass. Here is my take on some of the different pins available off the shelf; however, there are so many new pins on the market that I am confused: http://www.arnotq.com/pages/24/24.html.
