Hello All,

Are all wood joints the same? Where is a good place to get joint protectors? I recently was given a billiard cue, and have no clue what type of cue it is. Hoping they are all the same, and I can be directed to a good place to pick one up.

Thanks in advance for your advice.

They're not all the same but I believe if this cue is a production cue then its very likely that the Longoni JP's will work just fine.

If you put up a photo maybe some of us can help ID the cue.

Hi Puma, No not all wood joints are the same. There are different pin sizes and thread sizes to the wooden joints.

I think OzoneBilliards.com sells both the male and female parts of a Longoni wood joint protector. I have also seen Adam, and Buffalo wood joint protectors.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the replies. My guess would have been that they are not universal. Thanks for the confirmation. I will post pictures tonight when I get home. Maybe someone recognizes it.

On a side note, I'd never owned a billiard cue, and had only hit with a couple a few times. It sure feels different than my pool cue! Love it thus far.

I was told the difference between joints is English vs Metric. Not sure if that is the only difference...but in any case, I suppose it would be best to know the cue type. Perhaps someone knows here...I think it's a long shot! :)

I've not ever uploaded an image. Hopefully you can see this:

Well, I guess if nobody has an idea on what this is, I will just buy the ones available on Ozone, and gently see if they fit. We are not talking a huge amount of money. I've never been a real big joint protector guy, but with wood joints, it seems a bit more important.

Looks to me like it is a 1/2X8 thread, so a metric TP is unlikely to work. Metric pins are typically 12 mm diameter and their JP's will be too small.
An inexpensive solution may be a short piece of 1/2 ID pvc or vinyl tubing.
