Joint Question for Cue Makers?

I currently have a Josey cue which I really like. It has a radial pin and the joint diameter is .842. I'm planning to order an OB 1 Plus Shaft from Seyberts but when I spoke with them today they told me they didn't have the joint size of .842. The only had .841.5.

I originally purchased the Josey with two shafts; the standard Josey shaft and the OB Classic Pro. However, I don't like the Classic Pro because it feels like it hits too hard for my preference. I've already tried a softer tip and it still feels the same. Therefore, I'm going to sell it and go with the OB1 Plus since OB's sight states it has a softer quiet hit.

I don't know anything about cue building, cue joints or the effects of not having the shaft joint size exactly the same as the butt joint size.

Will ordering a shaft that's not exactly .842 at the joint, for example, .841 or .843 cause any noticeable negative impacts when screwing the shaft and butt together? What impact will the shaft and butt diameter have on the feel transferred to the shooting hand when playing if they aren't exactly the same?

Thanks in advance for helping me understand.

You will not be able to tell the difference a half of a thousands of an inch will make!

You've heard of the mountain and the mole-hill right?
A human hair is .003".
You really won't know until you receive the shaft.
Don't like the fit, send it back. Seybert's guarantee.
I'm betting you won't.

Thanks KJ. I forgot to mention that I was asked about "thread count" while speaking with Seybert's today. Should I contact Josey cues to inquire what the thread count is on their Radial Pins so I can let Seybert's know, or is this not necessary due to the joint diameter being the only important factor?

You were asked about thread-count to determine whether you have a true Uni-Radial or the import version.
I'm guessing because that's not a good way to make that determination, the thread-count is too close.
I should probably speak to them about that.
Anyway, I've recently seen a Josey cue with Radial pin somewhere on this site
and it appears to be the Uni-version with the pilot section slightly modified.
That slight modification should present no concern as to the shaft fitting your cue.
Order the shaft of your choosing and it should fit well as received.

The Best, KJ

If Keith is using true Radial pins then they should not have any problems building you a shaft.
