joint repair/replacement question

Hello,
I own a custom cue with a phenolic uni-loc joint. I have, of late, been using a Players cue that has a 5/16-18 joint. I would like to change out the uni-loc joint on my custom cue (and the two shafts that match the joint) to match the 5/16-18 joint on the Players cue. Is this a relatively simple operation? Would it in anyway compromise the playability of the cue?

Shouldn't hurt the playability of the cue but why not change the 2 5/16x18 to uniloc instead of the 3 uniloc to 5/16x18. Changing out the custom cue could hurt its value. You won't hurt the Player by changing it.

I would not change the joint on the custom cue. Do you know who the cue maker is? If so you might contact them and ask if they could build you a cue with the 5/16x18 pin, or if they would change the pin in your current cue. Players makes a low deflection uniloc shaft too. Hope this helps you out.
 
Any idea what replacing a 5/16x18 steel with a 3/8x10 wood to wood would cost? I see a lot of really pretty phillipino cues but I've contacted the manufacturers and they all use 5/16x18. I have nice shafter in 3/8x10 and i'd be more worried about their shafts warping than the butt

As you should be - many of those shafts are not maple. Don't know what they are - not saying all, but certainly some aren't maple (I've worked on a few). The good news is that your locale probably has humidity levels closer to those of the Phillipines, so the likelihood of warping might be lessened.

It's against forum rules to disclose pricing here, but hopefully you will get some PM's from cuemakers in your area who can help you out. It's not a difficult process.

Thank you. I think that I will have the joint on the Players cue swapped out for a uni-loc in order to match my custom. I plan on having the work done by Seyberts. Hows that sound?
