joint replacement

This is a repair I have not done yet. Customer cracked wood joint and and tenon for pin.

Looks like I can save ring work but all above that will have to be removed and a plug/core will be needed for new pin and joint.

What are the best options. How long? How deep? Methods of retention etc. all input will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Dan

Just did one on a teammate's cue. Almost the same scenario except I replaced ringwork as well. I cut flush off at the base of the rings, then put a core 3 inches deep into the forearm, extending out enough to add new rings, collar & joint pin. The strength is fine & it's nearly impossible to tell there was ever a repair done. Everybody has their own techniques, but this is what I felt would be sufficient. Just be sure you keep your centerline & it's not a difficult job. Lose your center & you'll have problems. And charge accordingly. That's a lot of work to do.
