The 37th annual Jointed Cue 9 Ball Tournament, now known as the Terry Stonier Memorial Tournament, is over with a new champion. Twenty One year old Deo Alpajora from San Francisco, went undefeated in the 89 player tournament, defeating Bobby Hunter in the finals. Third place went to Jeff Gregory, and eight time winner of this tournament, Kim Davenport, came in fourth. Fifth and sixth went to Bill Hart and Ed Ames, and James Carbo and Nick Aguallo were seventh and eighth. Deo pocketed $1,000 for first and the rest of the prize money was spread over 25% of the field. Deo is one of the new wave of Filipino players, and it looks like we will hear from him some more. He has all the tools. A monster break, a terrific shotmaker and what looks like a solid mental game. This tournament has a $50 entry fee and a field of 89 players is smaller than normal. The tournament room has four Gold Crown 1V's with light boxes and seating for the spectators with a view of every table. The hamburgers are legendary and the Stonier family are old friends for many of us who have played in this tournament for years. The walls of the main room and especially the tournament room are covered with pool memorabilia, with pictures of old and new champions, and most of them have played in this tournament or the major tournaments in Sacramento put on by the Stoniers in the 70's. This tournament has had the same Tournament Director (Joe Murphy) for as long as I can remember. There are a few pictures attached. John Henderson
