Joss cue purchased on ebay

I purchased a Joss cue on ebay. After examining the shaft I noticed the growth rings or layers don't travel the whole length of the shaft. Is this normal? I thought that they should run straight from the joint to the ferrule.
The layers are also wider on this cue then on other cues that I have.

Has anyone else purchased a new cue with this condition?

Thanks
Kevin

Completely normal. I haven't found that # of growth ring affects hit/stiffness/straightness in any measurable way. I've owned 3 Josses and all of them had run-out in the grain, yet they all stayed arrow-straight, and hit nice and stiff (though that could be the 13.5 diameter).

no prob. Joss is a good choice, I always marveled at their high quality control while pumping out high volumes.
