I talked about this subject over in the main forum a little, but I thought I'd ask you guys a few questions. Hopefully someone has experimented with what I'm doing now.
Background: been playing with a stock Schon butt and shaft for couple years now. I've been trying to get use to the shaft and decided that the hit is just a little off for me (I think it's the taper). So, I want to change it. I've tried a Triangle tip and a turned down 12.75 Schon shaft and so far and neither made much of a difference. The turned down shaft is better but still off. I have NOT tried a different taper on the Schon shaft yet (that's my next step).
Question #1: What is the construction difference between a Joss shaft and Schon shaft (wood, ferrule, taper, etc.)? (I know the tip difference).
Question #2: What is Joss shaft taper and what is Schon shaft taper (may be answered in question 1)? What is the difference here?
Question #3: I've been playing with a Joss shaft on my Schon butt for about a week now and I've noticed that the hit and feel is different (I like better). I can move the ball around better and the cue ball placement is now a little better than before. The shaft just seems to feel better while playing. I'm using the same tips on both shafts so what would cause this (taper maybe; wood, etc)?
Question #4: Do you think re-tapering a Schon shaft (with Triangle tip) to match a Joss shaft taper would be something that is worth trying? Or, should I just play with the Joss shaft?
