Joss Shaft

Just got a new Joss about a month ago and I love it. But, I'm not sure I like the 13.25mm shaft. My previous cue had a 13mm and I was real comfortable with it. Does Joss make a 13mm shaft or do I have to get one from another maker? If so, what shaft would you guys recommend?

HMM.. My buddie has a Joss that is 12.75 taper. I like this taper as it glides through my bridge hand a little better. Did you buy it stock or special order?

Not exactly, you have to pay to have it turned when you order it. If you didn't opt for that option (around $25 IIRC), then take it to a cue maker and have the shaft turned to your liking or mail it to Joss. Check Joss's website under cue repair.

I bought it stock from the internet. I didn't have the option to get a smaller taper.

Looking at different shafts, I'm thinking about getting the McDermott Intimidator. Not sure if it's worth the money though.

New Guy, it will cost around $30 for a cue repairman to taper your shaft down to 13MM.

Joss does have a fine line of production cues, but the only thing I dislike is their 13.25mm shafts. It's the standard they use and to most, it's a bit chunky for their tastes. Like others have said, it'll cost around $30 -/+ to have the shaft turned down to your liking.

Joss Shafts

Whenever I order cues from Joss, I specify the shafts I want along with the weight. My standard cues from Joss are 19oz with 13mm shafts. I have extra shafts that I call test shafts of different diameters so people can feel the difference between a 12.75, 13, 13.25, and a shaft with the Euro taper. It doesn't cost me any more to order cues to my specs so therefore no added cost is passed on to the customer.

You may be interested in a new or slightly used 314 shaft by Predator! You can find them from $125-$175 (used-new)

Thanks,

BooBoo,

How much would a Joss shaft go for with a 12.75?

Zims,

I was thinking about a Predator, but I've heard just as much bad things about them as good. Have you heard anything about the Intimidator?

No experience with the Intimidator, but I do with the Dominator shaft!
New 314's run around $180, used $125-? depending on condition.

The Intimidator is a super shaft...forget Predator. You can get it in 13mm, 12.75mm, or 11.75mm. Go back a few weeks on the forum and there's a thread on it. Everybody that already has one is giving it rave reviews.

Zim, What makes a Dominator shaft? Is it laminated?
The 314 is 10 pieces connected radially, the Dominator by Dominiak is 8 pieces connected radially. It's a phenominal shaft and is generally a little cheaper than the 314 shafts. All Dominiak cues now come with Dominator shafts and Moori tips. I love both the 314 and the Dominator! The Dominator seems to have a more solid feel to it when contacting the CB, compared to the 314.
