Cue has rounded points...not sure if i have seen a JW with rounded points...
I could be 100% wrong...thought i would bring that up just in case.

From about 1980 on they all had a rounded outer point.....his construction method changed around that time.

Sean's right"
Bill Stroud, Ernie/Gina Cues , & Bob Runde started making the cues with inlaid points"
before that they were cutting a v-groove in the forearms and installing the points that way, causing the points to finish out sharp"
it looks like a decent cue,
If anyone has any serious interest in this cue I can take a look, as the cue is supposed to be here in Tulsa"
I am not familiar with the sellers id on ebay, but I may know them in person"

cueaddict with the 411 on Strouds! Glad you were the one to throw that in. What's particularly 'odd' about this cue even more so is the stitched rings as opposed to the normal boxed rings. Although not uber-rare, they were well on their way out, especially by the time of this model #7. Or was it the 4.... ;)

I like this cue a lot, but man does it need some work, and if done right by the right guy, cha-ching!

That sounds way too cheap....

Is that where the market is these days? I have the same cue w/out the dots by the pearl inlay and white rings on either side of the boxes, and the sharp points are black, green, orange, natural, black and with the boxes at the joint. Had Bill refinish and wrap it not that long ago with a couple of new shafts and put more into it than that whole cue costs!!

I know it hasn't hit the end of the auction, but that seems low. It doesn't really matter, as I don't plan on ever getting rid of it anyway but anyone care to guess at market? Mine must be late 70's or early 80's...one shaft unplayed, one straight and played. I only wonder for insurance purposes.

Ken about nailed it, imo. I just sold one in near mint condition with an ivory butt-cap and did not make it over that estimate. This cue is not within a mile of the condition of mine.

Grindz, your cue was one step down, and a few more were made. However, with the re-finish and the new shafts, that definitely helps bump you up. Either way, both of these are great examples of Bills early work.

Since I bought it used. While "trying it out" I won half the cost of the purchase, and with the refurbish it all comes out about break even. I have loved playing with it all these years.....

Now if I can use it for another 20...it will have been the most useful purchase I've ever made!!! Hope my daughter starts to like pool one of these days!!

Duane your advice is duly noted....I agree, and he puts it at 3k.
