Update 4/12: Sending this cue to Proficient Billiards for a refinish and new all black linen wrap Monday, I can't wait. I should get it back within 3 weeks all pretty and shiny.
I think a friend of mine posted this a couple months ago w/o a price, now I own it. Before I have it refinished I thought I'd see if there is any interest in it in it's current condition where you can get it for less:
Old Josswest w/sideways W
- Butt has stainless piloted joint w/5/16-14 threads; common JW collar/ring; 4 ebony points w/4 veneers; fancy buttsleeve w/boxes, veneers and MOP inlays; linen wrap.
- Perfectly straight
- 29 1/4" from top of the joint to the end of the buttcap
-16.2oz w/the weight bolt that weighs .92 oz - very well balanced.
- Needs refinish including a pretty good ding in one of the points that goes through the finish (picture below) and you can feel the inlays, etc on the buttsleeve, but not bad for an old cue.
- Shaft 1: definitely an original JW shaft and is a monster hitter; full shaft measuring around 12.85 just under the tip and gets to 13mm+ a couple inches below the ferrule; weighs 4.4oz and is 29 3/4"; ferrule is either old micarta or ivory, looks like micarta to me but I'm blind.
-Shaft 2: Confirmed by Bill Stroud that this shaft also is original with this cue, the pilot looks different but the guy I bought it from says they were both original(?); This shaft was cut down to a very long taper and is between 12.1-12.2mm for a very long time, and because of this it plays way softer than the monster shaft described above. But the owner loved it and used both shafts based on condition of the equipment. Again, the ferrule is either old micarta or ivory, hopefully the pictures will help. Weighs 3.3oz and is 29"
Both shafts have a slight roll but the tips never leave the table when rolled together or apart, the thinner shaft has a little more wobble but I believe it's because of the long taper.
Hopefully I covered everything, this is a great example of Bill's early work and w/shaft 1 is probably exactly the hit it had when it was new.
I would do $1600 in it's current condition and entertain close offers but I'm in it pretty good.
