They play about the same. Bill went to more of the fancy custom/handmade style where Dan went more production. And yes JW's did go up when Bill passed. To collectors the cue to have will always be the Josswest over a Joss with the exception being the early Joss when they were together. Those are quite collectible.I dont see much about Josswest. A Dan Janes Joss hits well. Are the Josswest cues about the same. Did the death of Bill Stroud cause the Josswest cues to go up in value or are they, somehow, better?
Does a southwest have a better hit or feel? They play about the same. Bill went to more of the fancy custom/handmade style where Dan went more production. And yes JW's did go up when Bill passed. C'mon man you know better than to ask stuff like that. Define better. Its impossible, all cues are different and 'better' is massively subjective. I liked a good JW over a SW but that's just me. I've only hit one SW that i liked and it was older JF cue with micarta ferules. Cue hit unreal.Does a southwest have a better hit or feel?
I owned a SW. I think they are over rated and way over priced.Does a southwest have a better hit or feel?
I think there is something to be said about pride of ownership. But SW is out of control. Wish I had one lolI owned a SW. I think they are over rated and way over priced.

I've owned two and sold them both. I prefer a Schon or a Joss.I owned a SW. I think they are over rated and way over priced.

If you ever get a chance to shoot with the earlier SW, before 1996 build,Thinking of a Satin or josswest. Im just thinking I dont need either. Lol
I own two sw, Franklin built, but would never pay that much for a cue again...plus how many top players use a sw or other pricey custom cue..?None...I could never understand the hype over a cue that is known to develop a roll / lift in the butt. I had a few (mine stayed straight) and I thought they played great. But worth what they're going for now...probably not to me.
Wu Jia-qing, Kevin Cheng, Tony Chohan and Ko brothers all did before they were sponsored.I own two sw, Franklin built, but would never pay that much for a cue again...plus how many top players use a sw or other pricey custom cue..?None...
You're correct about that. But did it diminish their play, now that they play with mass production cues..?Wu Jia-qing, Kevin Cheng, Tony Chohan and Ko brothers all did before they were sponsored.
I thought Cheng used a Meucci..?Wu Jia-qing, Kevin Cheng, Tony Chohan and Ko brothers all did before they were sponsored.
Cheng was a Meucci staff guy before he disappeared. And no, using production cues did not harm any pro's level of play. Virtually all pros today use a prod. cue of one brand or another. Alex P. uses a Lomax but he's one of the few top players that use a custom wand. I think we all accept the fact that these guys/gals could use about anything and play good. Chohan used a steel-joint Diveney for a little while then went back to a SW before signing with Meucci. I asked him about his 'mooch and he said he loves it.I thought Cheng used a Meucci..?
Whenever Buddy won a tourney he sold the cue he won it with...I guess, that's how important gear was to him...Cheng was a Meucci staff guy before he disappeared. When Buddy was living here in tulsa he had a big 24/48 case full of cues. I watched him practice/play and he'd switch cues a lot and played exactly the same with every one. As long as the tip was shaped right he couldn't care less what kind of cue it was. Lots of makers would send him cues just to say that they made a cue for the great man himself. They knew he as flippin them for expense $$.Whenever Buddy won a tourney he sold the cue he won it with...I guess, that's how important gear was to him...![]()
Im not buying a standard sw. Its a sw satin or pacifier cue. They are less expensive. And the josswest cues im wondering how they can be much different , hitwise, from a standard joss. I don't think I'll be going down the rabbit hole again on either cue.I owned a SW. I think they are over rated and way over priced.

I think the pacifier cue prices are even more insane than a full-blown loaded SW. 2G's+ for a plain, and i mean PLAIN, birdseye cue is nuts.Im not buying a standard sw. He used a Southwest before being sponsored by Meucci. He had the Southwest in his case when i played him in Houston after he won US Open. He showed it to me after destroying me in our match.I thought Cheng used a Meucci..?
