Josswest

When Buddy was living here in tulsa he had a big 24/48 case full of cues. I watched him practice/play and he'd switch cues a lot and played exactly the same with every one. As long as the tip was shaped right he couldn't care less what kind of cue it was. Lots of makers would send him cues just to say that they made a cue for the great man himself. They knew he as flippin them for expense $$.
Funny you say that. Ive done a few youtube vids on cues under davepaggy. One is called "the best pool cue". As you know I'm no expert on anything pool but I have arrived at the same conclusion.

I dont see much about Josswest. A Dan Janes Joss hits well. Are the Josswest cues about the same. Did the death of Bill Stroud cause the Josswest cues to go up in value or are they, somehow, better?
Billy made me a number of cues over the years. My interest ended when he got all interested in cnc and the rounded points. At that point he was no different then just production cues as far as I was concerned.

He then developed cnc pointed points. It didn't fool anybody it was not hard to tell how he did it. He was a good friend of mine by the way but towards the end he kind of ruined his own reputation. I suspect his early cues may be sought after.
Just my opinion.

I played Buddy quite a few times when I lived in Ft Gibson and would play at Magoos when he was the house pro there. I remember talking to him and he said as long as the weight was about where he liked them at and it had a good tip on it and it rolled true, he didnt care who made it.

I have had a few custom cues and I have to agree, SW was stupidly priced now days. I have a pretty basic jerry Frankin SW back in Muskogee at a buddies house along with 1 of my Sugartrees 2 McDermotts a Joss sneaky and an Eddie Farris. For me, the Sugartree and the Eddie Farris are probably the best hitting cues I have ever had...but thats just to me. Everyone is gonna be different. Oh yea, I still have the very 1st cue I ever bought when I started playing back in 1992.. It was the cheapest Meucci cue you could buy at the time. I bought it at Aminis Galleria for $189.00...To me, that was pretty pricey back then. :D

Im not buying a standard sw. Its a sw satin or pacifier cue. They are less expensive. And the josswest cues im wondering how they can be much different , hitwise, from a standard joss. I don't think I'll be going down the rabbit hole again on either cue.
I have had both. I had a nice Joss and I came across a deal to buy a JW and jumped on it. To be totally honest with you, I could not tell a difference between the 2 except for the price. Would I buy another JW if I came across a good deal, absolutely.

Joss vs JossWest had a few other differences over the years, other than JossWest being more custom and Joss going to mass production. Joss started to thin their cues a bit, I think to appeal to more people. JossWest, a little thicker in the butt. Also, Bill Stroud used a very different 5/16 X 14 thread pin, that tightened up against the brass insert, whereas Joss (East) did not do that. Actually, many differences, but you had to handle some to know them.

if your concerned about resale value the chances of a JW holding or increasing in value is better than a SW pacifier
