Joy (Joi) China tables 2023

The fastest growing and becoming the most widely played billiard game over in mainland China is called Chinese 8 ball. Chinese 8 ball has the same rules as American or UK 8 ball, but the table is played on a 50 X 100 inch playing surface, with snooker pockets on the specialized table. Steel blocking is used in the rails to make sure the rails are very lively. Every shot must be called as you are going to play it, such as carom shots being used to pocket your ball. Joy tables is supposed to be the premier manufacturer of these Chinese 8 ball tables, with their product weighing in at over 2,000 lb from the thick slate being used for the specialized table. At that weight the slate must be 3 CM thick and heavy wood framing to support the slate. Here in SE TX there is growing interest in this Chinese 8 ball game from billiards halls that only have 3 ball billiard tables in their rooms now.

I have been looking at tables made in China and since now all pool tables are assembled with China parts, which tables from China are quality pieces? I have seen Oddie, Yalin YL-M-8A and Power shot tables that all look like American styled commercial tables. Are Joy tables quality pieces and has anyone worked on any of these China made tables in their past?

Joy is rapidly developing the Chinese 8 Ball market with a good enticement for people that want to promote the game outside China. Their cooperation mode exhibition program might be a good enticement for some billiard room operators and might help to bring new life into their business.

The Ipool projector playing surface would be a great teaching tool for beginners and might be good for promotional events, in getting the message across. There are folks who are exploring the idea of having no cloth on the playing surface anymore and a different substrate from slate that will be used that weighs little and remains very stable.

It looks like Joy has a cloth-less playing surface already in their Ipool projector product line. The Ipool deal would be a great remote controlled, subliminal sharking tool to have at 1's disposal when needed, as long as you didn't tell anyone about you having the system installed. Just flash a 2023 pic of Vanna WOF without makeup for a 1000 of a second just as the opponent is about to make contact with the cue ball should produce the needed outcome.

The Chinese Heyball 8 ball Champion took home 740,000.00 USD for his 2023 win. A lot of people who pot balls for a living will be enticed to go after the 740K prize money.

The game is boring to watch. It also has a insane 140min time limit so matches get won/lost on the clock. Joke. JOY and XingPai-STAR are the two big table makers. JOY is aligned with the WPA a-holes, XingPai is not. JOY calls their version Heyball, the other is Chinese8ball. Same game, one run by assholes and the other not so much.

The Heyball tournament is usually a race to 13 and whomever has won the most games in those 140 minutes is declared the winner. 1 game of 1 pocket that takes 2 hours to play can be considered boring also. When you have super large entry fields to a tournament the 140 minute rule works well to keep things moving along.

The pros are adapting to the newer style table and run out often. It won't be long till you see 9 ball playing on this style of table also. This Potts lad, breaks and runs out the first rack without much problem. The 147 lads will be flocking over first, since it is close to their neighborhood.

Professional billiard players are going to gravitate to the places that offer the most money and right now the Heyball environment prize money sure dwarfs the rest of the billiard world's tournament prize offerings.

Whatever bud, stick with that story. ALL the BIG name players are in the process of signing on with Matchroom. Some MIGHT cherry-pick a few HB/Ch8b events if possible but it will never be the main pool game other than in China/Asia. They'll have to ditch that insane 140min limit nonsense too.

With India being #1 in population China being number 2 in population coming in at close to 3 billion people that is a very large market by itself. Billiards is promoted big time over in SE Asia and has more major TV coverage in China then in any other country out there today in 2024. There is even a live 24 hour billiards channel over on China TV.

Jon Rahm the pro golfer was making millions of dollars on the PGA tour, yet Jon left the PGA environment for the new LIV golf deal because of the 300 million dollars offered up for his services. Gorst won 16K for his 2023 Derby City 9 ball win after 3 to 4 days of competing. The heyball champion of 2023 took home 740,000.00 USD for his work over 3 days. Not hard to figure out where the money players will be heading when they can win over 40X more money for winning a billiards tournament and not worrying about a plastic trophy that has the matchroom name on it.

A few players might dip their toe in the water but it will be noting like what you think will happen. There won't be a mass exodus of the Top 128 pool players in the world to China to participate.

The final 1.5+ million USD heyball tournament will have 64 players in the field only. 12 players will be in included in the final 64 person field that have won qualifying tournaments outside of China. With the super huge talent pool that is in the 1.4 billion people just in China, it will still take a lot of effort from the top players in the world that live outside of China to win the 740K 1st prize. There is a video of a 13 year old young man who plays the heyball pretty well and should improve over time. The heyball environment is already loaded with top talent as witnessed by the videos. The Oct. 26, 2023 video with the UK heyball participant offers up his opinion on heyball.

I hate to go all 'geo-political' but what happens to Chinese pool if the shit hits the fan over Taiwan? Granted the world would have bigger issues than pool to worry about but HB/CH8b would cease to exist except in mainland. Hell, people would be forced to buy non-Chinese pool stuff. I wonder if the new JOY/WPA hook-up has a 'break glass in case of war' escape clause??

Agree here. Some players will, contract allowed of course, travel to cherry-pick the big Ch8b events. They aren't going to move there and travel there on a routine basis would get old in a hurry. MR could hook up with JOY's main competitor XingPai-STAR and just duke it out. Don't see that happening due to Chin. gov't funding the whole deal.

Ronnie O Sullivan is ready to kiss the UK snooker environment goodbye to move on over to the Chinese 8 ball venues in China. Ronnie is 1 of the greatest snooker players here in 2024 and he is going where the money is. More will be following as professional billiard players will go where the most cash is to be won and not worry about plastic trophies.

“If I can’t go and do what I need to do, which is play a lot in China, I won’t ever play again. So, we’re at a kind of crossroads now,” said O’Sullivan in an interview with the BBC. “If that gets to the point where I’m not able to do that, I’m not allowed to do that, I probably won’t play. I’ll probably go and play Chinese 8-Ball because I still want to play snooker, I still want a cue in my hand.

“There’s just not enough here in the UK for me to justify the effort that I put in. If someone’s going to respect me and value me more, why would I not go there? It’s like being in an unhealthy relationship with someone, why would you be in that?”

For those who don't know about Ronnie, here is a video of Ronnie asking about the prize money for a 147 runout after shooting the first black ball. Snooker tournaments usually have a good sized prize if a player does produce a 147 maximum break during play. The announcers in the video when seeing Ronnie asking about the prize for the 147 run out did have to eat their own crow when Ronnie was done.

Are you employed by JOY or the WPA??? What's with the Chi8b crusade? You like it , great. Very few i know can watch it for more than twenty minutes. We got it already you love it. go watch some.

Hard to understand why anyone would hate the Chinese 8 ball game. It is played on a much tougher table then any tournament table that is used here in the states, even the 4.25" tables in KY. The steel backing in the C8B table rails make the rails of the table play more lively and much harder to pot a ball when it is frozen to the rail. The Joy folks have introduced a new niche in the game of billiards when the hasn't been a new version of billiards for decades. Joy is promoting their version of billiards just as Brunswick did back in the 1850s thru the 1930s when the company was sponsoring large tournaments. The average pro snooker players in the UK make about 50K a year and the top echelon players make 100K depending on endorsement deals. With the 740K prize money to the winner for one tournament it is an easy decision for the professional player to make. Ronnie OS will get paid more just to show up at a China heyball tournament then if he won the snooker Scottish open. Easy choice to make for most.

No reason why 9 ball, 10 ball, 14:1 and 1 pocket aren't being played on these C8B tables. A lot of posts from people who want the ultimate tough table to play on here on AZB. Here in 2024 the tournament C8B table is the toughest 9' pocket billiard table available to test your skill level on.

Not into it. It's a gaff table, IMO. I prefer pool games played on a traditional pool table. Where I live, there are no C8B tables so what's the point in having one?

I just want Earl to come out of semi-retirement and give it a go.
Seriously.
:)

PS, also, seriously: does anyone know if there is any awareness or perspective of Chinese vis any western pros, such as Ronnie, SVB, Earl?
Are they considered inspirational, heroes, or just plain unknown?

He's played before:

Are they considered inspirational, heroes, or just plain unknown?

Zeng Yubo, Ma Zhiyu, WangYan, WangPeng are very well known in SE Asia along with other spots around the globe such as in Africa. Ding Junhi is a world class snooker player who is in the C8B tournaments. Alex Pagulayan and the Magican himself can be added to the C8B list of particapants. With 1.4 billion people in China the perspective talent pool of world class billiard players is very deep. There were 9K people in the stands for the C8B finals with millions of viewers watching on live TV in China. The biggest billiard tournament here in the states is lucky to get more then 100 people in the live audience to watch the finals. The SD Kid did sign to play C8B back in 2016 but appartently that deal fell thru. If Ronnie OS is leaving his matchroom snooker contract behind to earn more money in China, what does his moving over to play C8B signal to the rest of the pro billiard players out there?

Seems the people that actually have a chance of winning 740,000.00 don't mind playing on a gaff table to have a shot at the money. The C8B table will be too differcult for a lot of people to play on, such as the hack golfer can't break a 100 on a real US Open golf course.
