Honestly. This one looks more like the hole was plugged for the joint screw.Did Judd core the forearm of his cues. I have seen two cues with maple forearm on the net where I can see two different wood on the joint.

That is it !!! i measured the brass insert and it is identical to the size of the lighter colored wood on the butts jointI think. It's just the brass inserts' wear marks .
