Jump Break cue question

I'm looking for a new JB cue. I prefer a wood cue with a wrap on the butt. J&J has one that is a natural finish with a wrap for under $100.00. It can also be had with the Samsara tip on it which I understand is BCA APA legal which I'd like to have. I would pull the trigger on this except I believe the tip is 14mm and it may be a conical taper? Not sure on this.
I would prefer a pro taper and nothing larger that a 13 mm tip. Or, would I be diminishing the ability/purpose of the cue by moving to a pro taper and a smaller diameter shaft/tip?

If I'll have better performance with the factory stock taper and tip I'll just buy it and adapt to it. I could live with the larger OD tip but my mind thinks i'd prefer the pro taper as that's what my player has.
There is about 5000 choices out there in JB's so i'm trying to get some quick perspective to be sure I get the right one out of the gate. The J&J's are priced right.
Thanks for any replies.

If all else is right for you, just have a cue repairman, retaper

You can have the diameter cut to whatever you want and do a retaper to a pro-12 o 14" taper and go from there.

Probably will run somewhere between $40 and $50 to do the work,

hope this helps

Since the jump break cue is specialized for the purpose, looking for the same taper and tip size as your playing cue does not really make sense if you want it just to feel the same. Aside from that, many good break cues do use a thinner taper. The Lomax break/jump a friend of mine has does have a taper and tip size similar to a normal playing cue. I have owned about 4 JJ break/jump cues and find them to be good enough for the performance, and very good for the price. There are better feeling break cues and better jumping cues, but at double to triple the cost.

I'm not at all opposed to spending 2 to 250$ on a J/B. Can anyone suggest a cue in this range that would have a linen wrap and something close to a pro taper? I have hit with a conical taper breaker before and didn't care for it.
Thanks

Almost all of the pre-made J/B cues are thicker shafts with a stronger taper. McDermott Stinger is a 13.5 mm shaft, Fury same. Players PureX J/B is a pro taper, but a 14mm shaft https://www.seyberts.com/jump/break-cues/hxtp2-pure-x-jump/break-cue/. Looks like you are getting an HXT playing shaft with it, which is like a $100+ value there, good deal.

Lucasi has a 13mm shaft and a wrap, but is on the high side for a production j/b cue and no shaft taper info https://www.seyberts.com/jump/break-cues/lucasi-l-2000jb1/

Or just get whatever and have a local cuemaker taper the shaft how you like.

The break cue wants a stiff shaft to put as much energy into the CB as possible.

The jump cue wants as light a shaft as possible so the shaft deflects out of the way of the rising CB.

A single shaft cannot be optimal for both.

I used a J and J for a few years and still have one put away somewhere in a case. They do the job quite well. I would probably still be using it if I had not stumbled on a nice Mezz and had some extra cash to spend at the time.

Stick with the stock taper and even the stock tip does quite well. I would not pay to upgrade the tip until you try the one on it first. If you don't like it, you can always do upgrades later.
