Jump Break cue

Is there really any difference between a jump break cue combo and having to separate cues?

I am old enough to get it. An El Camino is not as good of a car as a car and not as good of a pick up as a pick up truck.

With that said a stiffer shaft on a break cue is nice but not as good on a jump cue. The tip is one of biggest differences. Super super hard for jumping and only hard to super hard for breaking. The weight is the next thing. A jump cue is usually the lighter the better. No so with the front half of a break cue.

Personally I feel that you make too many compromises in a jump/break cue. I do make them if customers ask.

If you're old enough to remember the Chevy El Camino, you'll get it. If not, you will have to look it up.

El Camino=jump break cue.

Okay. I know what an el Camino is as I’m a Chevrolet technician but I didn’t know where you where going with it

So now that we have established the down sides. The ease of carrying one cue instead of two. Good breaking performance and the ability to jump all but the closest shots in one cue are the advantages. So most people are able to function well with a jump break cue.

Any disadvantage to having/using a super super hard tip (jump tip) for breaking?

I like to hit with english, so phenolic is out for me. But there are other super hard tips that will not slide off the cue ball and I see no disadvantage to using the hardest tip possible that still can provide a moderate amount of english without a miscue.

I don't think it's that hard to find a tip that's a good compromise. I have no problem jumping with a White Diamond, Zento or Taom tip, all of those tips give good controll on the break.

Yes you may jump the ball off the table too often. Mad man or samsara leather jump break tips are still nice for breaking. White diamond and phenoluc are better for jumping.
