Jump/Break cues what to consider?

Hello;
I am considering a Break cue.
Should I look at a jump/break cue? I have't tried jumping maybe its time.
I am not looking for a real pretty cue, I would like to buy the right one the first time always less expensive than replacing cue bought on impulse.
How much to get good quality?
What type of joint should I look for?
Weight?
Any options on the handle peices that I should know about?

what does everybody think about the fury jump/breaks i've heard some good things and they are reasonably priced
 
I use a Varney J/B and think it is great for both purposes. Kevin will treat you right.
 
I've got an X-Breaker and I love it. I was pretty much in the same boat you were about 9 months ago, but after talking to Richard (Nipponbilliards) and several people on here I went with the XB.

I've played with a Fury JB for about 8 months and love it. Check out the chart at http://www.platinumbilliards.com/rating_break.php The speed rating ranks almost as high as the Predator J/B and at half the cost. This was a big selling point for me.
I did a side by side comparison with my teammates Sledgehammer JB and the Fury outperformed it in feedback (feel), better spreads, and managing the cueball (parking the cueball in the middle of the table). I'm averaging 2-3 balls each break of 9-ball. The two most important shots for me now are winning the lag and having the first break.

I purchase mine from Neilsens Billiards for about $140 after shipping, Joe is great to deal with. Good luck with finding your J/B.

I tried the slege didn't feel like i liked the feedback i got from it but many people loved them i just recently ordered a j&j j/b for 60 brand new not a ton of money for a break cue and hey if I don't like hey it was only 60 instead of paying 300 hundo for a bk2

Contact Kevin Varney, he's all over this forum. He will make you a jam up J/B cue. I love the hell out of mine, there I said. I turn a lot of heads when I snap whitey and park it in the center of the box. Good CB control and one of the best jumpers I used, jumped a ball from 5" away and made the shot.This was the first day I got it too, with little experience.

The Fury performs as well or better than most jump breaks out there for about half the price.

We stay sold out of them so they must be workin' for someone. Actually, we hear a lot of good feedback about them.

I'd put the Jump Portion up against any one else's cue for performance. The break is subjective so I won't get into what is better and what isn't. I'll say this much, breaking on a table with the Break Rack on it I was able to park whitey in the center of the table with all the break cues that were on display at the booth. Including the Fury. So I have to conclude that the break is at least 80% technique and 20% cue. At least that's my opinion as one who has had a lot to do with "break" cues in the last 15 years. I have seen people just shatter the rack with the Bunjee Breaker, and the Sledgehammer, and the Fury and 2 minutes later there are others who can't get two balls past the side pockets.

So I say that you should find one that feels good when you break with it and that performs as a jump cue should when you jump with it. With today's jump cues you definitely need one that is engineered to facilitate the shot. After that your range of shots will only be limited to your skill.

I have a Stinger as well. I am absolutely amazed at how I am able to control the CB during the break or jumping. My Stinger weight is about 18.7 ounces (lighter than my playing cue). When I was looking, the Stinger was recommended to me by a pro. Jumping is a snap with this as well. It's easy to use. Took me a little bit to get used to the taper. But I absolutely love it.

I learned to jump with a J & J, which I still have. J & J is a good bang for the buck. Personally though, I don't have good CB control which is why I changed.

From what I have read, Varney Cues makes a very nice JB cue. Many people on this forum use one, and Kevin's work comes highly recommended. I think he is still moving his shop, I haven't seen him around here for a while.

Richard (Nipponbilliards) makes the XBreaker. Many people on here give it rave reviews, and I do believe Richard has made many improvements recently.

I am sure you will find something that suits your game well. There are some very knowledgeable and helpful people on this forum.

My vote is for the Stinger. Good Luck.

The Fury's are good, my father had one.

We both use XBreakers now though. Cant go wrong. Ultimate Power and control.
 
i have a sledge and a j&j.........both are good. I use the j&j mostly cuz i got it supercheap on ebay and its already dinged up from people borrowing it, id be irked if my 200$ sledge was dinged so i leave it at home. i like them both......i break better with the sledge, i jump better with the jj.......ive used a fury jb and honestly i like it better than either of mine, i can really jump well with it and it breaks like a dream for me.

I have a Varney J/B cue too. You cant go wrong with this one plus Kevin is a great guy to deal with.
 
I'm now using an XBreaker. The XBreaker replaced my Bunjee Blaster J/B cue. I too was in a quandary about which break cue to buy so I bought the Bunjee because the price was right and I have had great success with their jump cues.

The Blaster is half the price of the Sledgehammer, XBreaker, Stinger and Predator. It does cost more than the Fury and J&J.

The nice feature is the quick release joints that allow you to attach the shaft at the forearm or handle giving you a normal length jump cue OR a longer jump cue as needed. I'm not sure if the other cues have this feature or not. This is like having 3 cues in one.

So I do have a Bunjee Blaster I am trying to sell to help recoup some of the costs on the XBreaker. I have the post on the other forum. Willing to make a deal if you are interested.

did you get that from Carlscues? My pool partner and I both have one and for the price, they break nice and jump really well once you have mastered the art of jumping accurately.
