jump cue question

loose!
The wrist has to be loose as well, most of the speed comes from it.
I usually grip the cue with my thumb and the first finger.

Ditto!! Same for both pendulum and dart methods.

loose. does anyone on here hold it like theyre throwin a dart. Ive seen 1 guy do it that way and it looked funny. Wondering if it works.

It's my method of choice in two instances: 1) when you have to reach (i.e., cue ball is in the middle of the table) and 2) when a 75+% ange is needed.

Back in July , I found a couple of videos on
jumping the cue ball and all.

Posted them back at my site - could be interesting.

Link is here, buddy:

Learning how to jump

:)

Yeah, improved my jump after watching those videos repeatedly. Strangely for me, I prefer to use a dart stroke when the cueball is very close to a rail and the normal stroke when the cueball is somewhere on the table..

you should learn both dart and regular strokes. depending on how tall you are just having the normal jump stroke will limit you to how far out from the rail you can jump a ball. once you get so far away you will have to dart it and even farther than that you have to dart it with 1 hand. i jump better darting with one hand than i do 2 because your grip has to be so loose and im letting the cue do all the work. It also gives me a better view of my aim. Check out some of rossmans 1 handed jumps.........he does both left and right.

yeah, I actually played with him on Sunday in a ring game we had at Cattlemen's and he said he liked it a lot

I was wondering how you guys usually grip your jump cue. Loose or tight due to the elevated position
A tight grip on a jump cue kills the action. Let the jump cue do the work and guide it with a nice light grip and you'll be amazed at how much better it works over a tight grip on a jump cue.

Am glad the videos helped you, buddy.

All the best!

Loose. Has anyone used the Steve Lomax new jump cue? The one that breaks down into 2 parts for short or long jumps. He made one for me after i had borrowed his and wouldn't give it back. It is the best I have jumped with.

That's a great question Jake. I'll just say this. I had quit pool before jump cues were invented, at least as far as I knew. People were just starting to jump with their playing cue. I couldn't do it. We played two shot shootout anyway. When I came back last year of course I still couldn't jump, but I knew that I had to learn. I bought a few jump cues. I watched some videos and instructional shorts. I struggled. VooDoo Daddy from this forum helped me when he was in Detroit. The man can flat out JUMP ! He told me to hold my cue loosely. I didn't listen. I still couldn't jump. He left town. One day I started to try anything and everything. I held my cue loosely and followed through and SOARED over the blocking ball :p . THANKS STEVE...Tom

Told ya it works...HAHAHAHAHAHA, your very welcome Tom.
